well my parents will let me do stuff to my car to make it look nice and stuff like that, but no performance whatsoever. i still have to talk them into a cai. they let my brother do what he wanted to his car. i am more responsible (better grades, i have 1 speeding ticket, he has 7, i listen more). the only thing he has for him is that he argues. i just say, "ok, whatever." well anyway, what should i do about it? i have a swap in my future but thats not going anywhere when i cant get a cai.

swap, just say that your having engine problems and you found an engine thats a great price and gets awsome gas mileage.... the gas mileage bit gets them every time. lol

also you can say that you feel your car is a bit underpowered and that you have trouble pulling on to the higheway. say that you feel you need a little more pep in your ride and a turbo wouldnet be going overboard.

gas mileage - nope, they say "we pay for your gas, so that doesnt matter." they pay for my gas because of the long ass trip to and from school. they wont believe me about the underpowed car merging onto the highway.

Ive got a friend that had the same problem, he just stopped trying bc they wouldnt let him do anything to it. But he couldnt really complain, they bought him a new car and pay for gas and insurance. Did you pay for your car? If you didnt, then you dont have much of a say. Be happy, cars are expensive as hell to buy, run, and maintain. Im thrilled whenever my parents fill up the tank, and drive it a few times a week when im not around. Whenever i do something to my car that i need a hand with, my dad helps me... then he asks if we can do the same to his car tongue.gif

my parents put down the first 3k. they did it to my 2 brothers before me, so they did it to me. i got the car for like $7800. im making payments right now for the rest and i pay all my own insurance and once schools out im paying for my gas too. anyway, he came around and said i could get it, but nothing else any time soon since i just spent $860 on rims and tires. now the one i was going to get is getting pretty expensive, so i dont know what im going to do now. i want to build one, but well see how it goes with him tonight. this is such a pain in the ass.

Straight out ask them why they don't trust you to be responsible with your car and your money. That's what you've described, a lack of faith in your character.

Your parents do not trust you with any improvements to your car, because they think you'll immediately go out and test the limits. Your parents don't trust you to spend money on your car, because they think you won't keep to a budget.

Either you are a responsible person, worthy of choosing how to spend your money on your car, or your parents have raised an untrustworthy spendthrift.

Don't make it an issue of challenging their authority -- grey area arguements never go well. Make it a black and white issue about your character. Do they trust you, or not? And if not, why are you less trustworthy than your brother (but don't bring up your brother until they say they can't trust you, comparisons are also a grey area and difficult to argue).

As preparation, get a list of modifications your brother made to his cars.

Yo. My parents used to be just like that. But I got the power of arguing like your bro. Give it time and they'll come around. Just do the cai. Think bout it..... how often does your dad open ya hood????? Mine's tripped about lowering the car but my car is dropped and now I'm getting ready to do the SWAP!!! So dont lose ya faith and be optimistic.

I would just do a swap to the 3s-gte engine...a little cheaper and a LOT easier to find (search for a rear clip of a '90-'93 Mr2) but if you are intent on turboing your 7afe...there is a how-to for it. Not sure what king od turbo you would need but look around a bit I know there is a thread for it...sorry I couldn't be mroe helpful rolleyes.gif

i think my budget is whats getting them. everything i earn i try to put towards my car. i have like $550 in the bank now, but ill try to save up some more and ask if i can get something when i have more money in the bank. i think my dad is just frustrated that i put everything into my car. i think they let him do what he wanted because he didnt spend all his money on his car (instead, he spent it on alcohol and cigarettes). i dont smoke and rarely drink which is why i am able to put more money towards my car quicker. the cai ended on ebay for $120 shipped. ill see if he'll just let me make one for like $80 with K&N filter.
