I've been thinking about getting a car cover for some time now. The reason I was thinking about getting one is not just for the UV and other weather protection, but to keep my car from getting scratched or broken into.

Im bringing my car up to school next year and parking at my house. Its not the best part of town, and its gonna be either on the street or, more likely, behind the house. Im putting in an alarm this summer, but theres only so much those do, especially if none of my roommates or myself is around. I also know that even if I get a cover with a cable lock, the cloth can still be cut. I'm not gonna have my stereo up when I'm anywhere near my house, probably not gonna have it blasting anywhere on campus. I *might* drive the car once a week. I usually walk or take a bus to get around, unless I'm going downtown. I'll also be using my car when I want to go home for a weekend, or to visit friends at other schools. I figure that would happen about once a month. So, I really wouldn't mind taking the cover off and puttin it back on once a week or so.

I was looking at the noah and the weathershield; neither are cheap. But if it's gonna help my car out for the next 3 or 4 years or longer, than I dont mind spending the money.

So what do you guys think? Is it a good idea to get a cover? Will it be less likely to be broken into, or dented/scratched?

Thanks for the input,
-mike

Thats another thing I was thinking about. Someone looking at it might think that if it's worth covering, then it's worth stealing or breaking into.
Thanks for the input Nat.

I've been thinking about buying a cover too, but only because there is lots of pollen in my area and I park by a tree and that means leaves and birds. I'll probably just get a cheap one.

But Mike, if you park it behind you house AND cover it, people won't even see it, but if you park on the street, yeah, I think people will think its worth breaking into.

i cover my car when i go away to college or when im not using it. keeps it clean and protects the car. i bought a nice cover that went for about 130bucks. dont go cheap on the cover b/c it could wind up doing more harm then good...car can get scratched up from bad material.

Even if I do park it behind the house, it will still probably be visible from the road. As of now im thinking no to the car cover, but I have all summer to change my mind redface.gif
