So, why do people get aftermarket racing style steering wheels? Don't you lose the airbag? And why the heck would you want to do that?? kindasad.gif I would rather have my life over a new steering wheel. kindasad.gif Other than my rant, the steering wheel looks nice.

I feel the same way. I'd rather be alive than have people saying at my funeral, "Yeah, but his car had a really nice steering wheel."

spke719 - why 2 tachs in almost the same spot?

Celicav - Many reasons: in some cases air bags have caused more injury's then without them, Allready been set off, factory steering wheel lacks alot in the gripping department....

airbags main function are to prevent whiplash and protect people who do not wear there seatbelts.

and if you upgrade your seatbelts to a 3 point or 6 point (i think) harness, with an aftermarket steering wheel and that harness you are just as safe if not safer..

Stock seatbelts are 3 point. And seatbelts and airbags work as a team, the seatbelt restrains you as you fall into the airbag, preventing you from hitting your head on the steering wheel. A lot of people will give some bull**** like "Airbags do more harm than good." If that was true, Airbags wouldn't be standard on cars now.

True. I'd def have 6pts in my weekend car, but never for a daily driver. Too much of a pain. And plus, you have to mount them at shoulder height or else they'll compress your chest cavity in a wreck and you'll be crushed to death.

6 points if you like your balls smashed...

4 points with a proper racing seat will do just fine if you remove your airbag and replace with a racing wheel...

that and 4points,5 points and 6points have 0 give in them unlike how a stock 3 point will give way a few inches before it catches you.. so when i install my 4 points i don't plan on moving....at all

but racing harnesses aren't going to help much in a stock seat since they won't stay on...

and the wheel looks good spyke but holy crap....its radioactive in that thing....Got glow?!

true but i had my moms escape one night just drivin. the roads were icy so i was drivin slow as hell. some guy hit his brakes and i hit mine and hit the jersy wall. at like 10 miles an hour, did nothin to the escape. but the air bags went off. i now have powder burns on my eyes and all over my hands cuz of the air bag going off. and they hurt like hell. i dont know, it just pissed me off that they went off. and the fact that they are almost 1000 to replace per air bag. so now i have 2 airbags to replace. but oh well
