Hey guys,
my ST185 3sgte motor has been lying in my garage for about a year now because I never had time to swap it. Its in a shop right now about to be start up and have a compression test done to it. I was just wondering what do you think could be a common problem with an engine lying there for so long??? Please let me know, thanx in advance.

Rust, corrosion...most all swapped engines are sitting for a long time before their put in.

ill tell you something i learned with my motor. replace every gasket you can think of, because they will all leak. do the valve cover gasket, rear main seal, distributor gasket, thermostat, waterpump, timing, belt, idler pulley and tensioner, and everything else you can think of.

advanced auto parts
sells full engine gasket kits
investing in that as per lagos' suggestion would be good

You should tell them that how long it's been sitting. When a motor sits that long, you should put lube in each cyl a day before you are about to start the motor. It's prolly been sitting another year before you got the motor too. I think the lube everyone uses is called marvel mystery oil. It's a penetrating lube for the rings.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
