how much bandwidth does it take to host a video on 6gc. I know its a generic question with alot of variables.
But lets say I want to post a 20mb video off my server on 6gc. How many people would download it. How much bandwidth am I expecting to use up? I'm asking this because I dont have an idea how many active members are on 6gc, and how many lurkers. I dont want to bust the bandwidth limit. |

6gc does not host videos, so it technicly does not take any bandwidth except the size of the page with the link. once you click the link your either re-directed or the player opens up. the hosted video is then loaded from the site that is hosting it directly to the user. a 20 mb video over time (if bandwidth is added up from day one) it will be a huge number but it does not really matter, (unless the site with the video file has a monthy limit, sux for them) the only thing that really matters is how many people are gana be loading it at once, witch in my case (when I host videos and pics from my server) can be controlled, I can limit the amount of simotanious connections to it so my network is not slowed way down, making the actual bandwidth size not matter, however it will mean that if that limit is reached a wait line will occur (witch is when your browser or player sits in a connecting state withough showing progress.)

He is not asking that. He clearly asks, if HE wants to host a video from HIS machine. ![]() To answer the question. There is no way to know. But as creis, you should control the amount used and if you have a monthly limit, do not host any ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

I just wondering if anyone who has hosted videos can tell me how much bandwidth it used up. I have a 120 gig bandwidth a month. I'm wondering how much of that will be used up with all the members here downloading the video.

Well, if the video is 20 MBs, and 2000 people download it, you'll use up 20X2000 MBs of bandwidth.. or 40 GB. If you're worried about bandwidth, make the video smaller ![]() ![]() |

I've talked to Coomer about this before. -------------------- ![]() |
