I currently have those bulbs that you get from the asian racing stores. They say that they are brighter but its really because they run more wattage. i think its like 85 for the lows and 100 for the his.

Pepboys is having a sale on the sylvania's from silver star. its like two pair for 24.99. My question is honestly how much of a diffrence is there between the ghetto hi watt. bulbs and the silver stars. Do they look better, because ive heard ppl go on and on about the sylvania blulbs. Whats all the hype about? Any pix?

Ive searched and from what i can tell its sylvaina's or piaa which are pricey. Or am i better off with my hi wattage ones. and yess i know about the harness melting risk.

They're Sylvania which are stock on alot of cars, so its a much better bulb. And they do make a difference but they're probably not as bright as the cheapo bulbs.

I work for one of those automotive parts stores and i dont recomend them to my customers after putting them in mine, They are not worth the money. For our cars you can get the one set in the double pack but the other half the time you have to by indevidually. Then if you want the fog lights too, we are talkin major money for some bulbs. I dont see too much of a difference and think they are over priced. And you cant touch the bulb when you put them in, the oil on your fingers will make them burn out in less than a month.

it is very bad to run a higher wattage bulb like those cheap ones. it will melt stuff and cause problems.

Yeah, you're asking for a hurting runner high watts, MAJOR nono, it could cause any number of problems.

I have silverstars in, and love em. Pure white color temperature, bright as hell.

GTchic is right about installation however- you can't touch the bulb. You can NEVER touch the bulb on any headlight. I hope she doesn't think thats specific to silverstars?

I recommend silverstars, but they're expensive.

I have silverstars, love them, and recommend them. They not only look nice on the car, but they light up the road a whole lot better than my last bulbs did.

yes. that's what happens w/ the higher watt bulbs. it happened on both my celica, and my brother's S10 w/ some headlights we had. pain in the rear. frown.gif.

also, the sylvania, the only way i thought they were worth anything, was on my AE92 corolla, but that's only because the bulbs are dual filament, so i didn't have to buy umpteen million dollars worth of crap. for the celica, get somethin else..that's my 2cents. "project brius" bulbs are what i have in my lights, and i love them. they are just a nice pure white light. the only place i know of to get them, is through oVerboost.

woa! that's a very good price for silverstars. Mind sharing more details about the sale?
EDIT:
never mind. Found it. Check out pepboys.com and look at their in-store specials. 29.99 - 5 MIR = 24.99

I bought a full set of PIAA's for mine, not too impressed with the low beams, may be an aiming problem, but the brights are REALLY bright, lights up the street signs enough to make you squint! thinking about some silverstars for the low beams if I cant get the aim straightened out. (the headlight aiming bubbles are apparently not all that accurate)

I installed my silverstars yesterday - highs and lows look great! The road is much brighter than before.
