Install time?, TEIN S-TECH Options

So I am growing ever more tired of looking at this box of springs. My question is to anyone who has installed springs on their own, how long did it take for you to install your springs, and what tools should I have ready. I assume I do NOT need a spring compressor, but whatever else you think I need?

Also... off topic, but is the ST202 frame the same as the AT200?.. dont laugh if its a dumb question.. im just looking at chassis parts.

Took me about 3hrs on my celica. I didnt use the spring compressors either. I took the top strut mount nuts off with the strut assembly still on the car so if the spring did pop lose it wouldnt go anywhere.

Well I am putting my Celi into a car show this Wednesday, so I was wondering if I would be able to put them on before then. What all would I have to take off to get at the springs, just the wheel, the brakes, and then drop out the strut?

do it duing the day in case you need to run and get parts. make sure you have air tools too.

took me 4 hours, bymyself in my garage, with only handtools, and waited like 30 minutes for my dad to get me a couple of bolts for somethiong that was messing them. no spring compressor either.

yea. thats probably the only problem. i held the spring down and made my mom twist the nut on. that was interesting. (please dont think in pervertedness..)

okay. i get home at 3, so that should leave me plenty of time to install them myself. one question though. i was looking at the how-to on installing springs and it looks relativley easy but it says that i need to remove the brake line from the assembly. does that mean taking off the brake line or is it a bracket that just unbolts? also do i need to do anything with the sway bar? quick responses would be nice. thank you.

there is a bolt holding the brakeline to the strut assembly. and on the rears, you will have to unbolt the sway bar.. this is the pic in the how to. it shows all the bolts youll need to take off.

Okay. I want to just do this as quick as possible so it is ready to go for the carshow. after i install them should i expect to hear my suspension clunking from the springs seating themselves?

i dont think it should make any noises from them. you car might just get a little lower when it settles.

it shouldnt make any noises "breaking in". first time installers are looking at around 5 hours. (u want to take ur time) experienced people can do it in an hour.

okay.. hopefully final question. well half question. more-so review. the bigger springs go in front and smaller in back, hence the code R-P1L37-OUO EBC (for rear) and the bump guard goes on top. right? if it is the other way then I am an idiot. Also, I dont think it will take me 5 hours. I have worked in an autoshop for 2 years. I am just hoping I dont break something, as then I wouldnt have anyone to take me to get parts. oh well. life goes on.

The only thing you really have to be careful with is the sway bar end links. Spray them really good with pb blaster and use a wire brush drill bit around the threads showing and work the nut loose back and forth so you dont mess them up. I ended up having to replace one endlink (50$) because i was in a hurry and ended up jacking it up. Also make sure you put the top strut mounts on right and facing the right direction.

i have installed 3 tein s-techs on my freinds cars and they have had no prablem making poping noises. it will take about 4-5 hours and havin a buddy or two to help really cuts down the time.

And yes, the bump stops will sit on the base of the shock or actually place it about half way. It'll set in once you get your car back on its feet going over the road/bumps.

My friend and I just installed the tein s springs and KYB struts in about 3 hours... the front right makes that clunking noise from what my friend says is the springs moving... he said it should settle and be fine... can I do anything to fix that?

Check that the front top spring seating has been installed correctly. The is a marking which says OUT on it and this should be installed facing out towards the wheel.

Clunking noise means the spring is moving in its seating when you turn the steering wheel. This should not happed.

Wow, it sure took long for you guys. It took me under 2 hours for grinding down my stock struts and installing my Dropzone coilovers. I didn't use compressors either...you don't need them on the 6GC.
