probably been posted before but i couldnt find it. i have a minor engine knock (nothing serious and the noise cant really be heard outside of the car.) when my car is cold and in idle and also at lower rpms.

ive had this for a while and im guessing its normal for our engines but if it isnt feel free to post some possible problems.

possibley, didnt think of that. would injector cleaner do the trick or new injectors all together?

the injectors for celica seems to be really loud but it is normal. I used to think that I had a problem with it when I first got the car as well.

Took it to a mechanic who told me it was normal. smile.gif

we really dont know what you are hearing, i cant say that injector cleaner will fix it or not. if you can get a recording of the sound or something then that would help .

how many miles on the engine? could need a valve shim adjstment..i think the BGB calls for them every 60k

check your injectors they propably need cleaning .. or sparks.

the minor knock is the loudest at lower rpms but when the car warms up the noise is less. the engine does have a lot of miles on it...about 115k but i keep it in good shape and there is defintely no leaks. i havent changed the injectors yet but i recently did a tune up.

as for a valve shim adjustment....what is that exactly?

and what is a good way to clean the injectors.

ill definitely try to do that or if not, hopefully the the engine will be making the noise when im at lsp in a week. but i doubt it will b/c the engine will be warmed up.

Valve shimes are adjustable where the top of the valve stem meets the rocker arm. As an engine wears, the tolerence between the valve train start to grow and loosen. So adjusting the valve shims is a way to help bring the tolerence back to specs.

I would personally let a dealer ship do this, because it requires you to use a feeler gage. It require experience to know how much adjustment is right.

buy a car stethoscope at sears ! all you can do is guess, but with that it will tell you the location of the sound for sure.

in principle you wont be getting knock until the car is under load, so I would suggest your problem (if there is one) is else where

Mine did that today, my friend heard it a bit, his reasoning was that the oil pressure hadn't gotten up in those first couple cranks.

I have another wierd sound though, I need to check on it, I may be back for help on it too.
