a 60 amp fuse? thats waaaaaaaay overkill.. that can either blow the amp or catch it on fire.. or both even... stick with the recommended size.. if a 15 amp fuse keeps blowing, stick a 25 amp fuse in it.. and check all the connections... or maybe its wired to a load the amp cant handle..

that can also short the board... so.. you might want to tell him he can either use his head or use his wallet to get a new amp..

if a fuse keeps blowing, its blowing for a reason. do NOT put a 25 (or for god's sake a 60) amp fuse where a 15 amp fuse is supposed to go. find the reason the fuse is blowing and fix it. putting a higher amp fuse in will only make things much much worse.

QUOTE i already know the answer to this stupid question but a guy i know doesn't believe me. anyways here it goes: can a 60 amp fuse work in an amp that only takes a 15 or 30 amp fuse?? QUOTE oh yeah to everybody on here, don't sell or buy anything to smlogg. he will try to rip you off!!! We never conversed. If this amp can pull a max of 30 amps you should probably have mentioned that. You sent me no schematics no instructions no manual etc. When you originally posted your auction, you advertised it as an 800watt amp, which was just wrong and deceiving, its a 400watt dual channel. When I asked you for information on the amp, you sent me the bare bones information that is supplied on the website. I wouldnt be suprised if you just copy and pasted it. I had to look that all up and contact a number of people working in the car audio business to find out what this amp could or couldnt do. I based my decision off recommendations from people who didnt own the amp, and you certainly weren't any help. Bridged, not bridged, gauge, amps, you sent me the unit bare without specifying any of these. If you knew it was a 30amp max you should have told me originally, or at least when I sent you a PM asking about it; posting here implying that you already said such seems like a cheap shot trying to dispell any future accusations I might have made about you being a bad seller. I tried to rip you off? If I wanted to rip you off, I would have reversed paypal charges by now and taken all the money back then just disapeared. I never would have sent you the money in the first place. You were completely shady, asking for the 2nd half of payment when you sent me a tracking number that didn't work. This sell has been nothing but a nightmare for me and the only reason I didn't post anything about you being a bad seller was because I am, in general, way too trusting of people and coincidences. The stuff eventually came through and thats fine by me. I found a buyer for your amp who likes working with electronics, so I've covered losses on my end, I really dont care anymore. I've since wired the system to 800amp dual channel with 4gauge power and 12gauge speaker. The subs work fine and the box is decent, even though its been drilled into a few times. This post was completely out of line. This post has been edited by Smlogg: May 20, 2005 - 3:11 PM |

Smlogg, it's your responsibilty to research what you are about to buy before you buy it.

QUOTE(K-ESD @ May 21, 2005 - 10:51 AM) Smlogg, it's your responsibilty to research what you are about to buy before you buy it. Absolutely, but that doesnt justify lying on the boards. He lied to me several times during the transaction, during the initial auction, and now to you. He chose DHL as the shipping company because "they were the cheapest and i've gotten stuff from them before and everything was fine." I tell him I am still waiting for a tracking number on the package before I send him the final payment and he asks "what is your deal??." The tracking number that he sends me, finally, doesn't work. After I bitched him out for a while, he finally sends me a tracking number 2 hours before they attempted delivery. The package I got was beat up and taped to hell, there was a large hole in the side and it looked like it had been used for shipping several times. When I attatched the power cable the amp sparked on the terminal and blew the fuse. We got another one to be sure, this time it didnt blow but the power didnt turn on. As soon as I took off the power cable, sparked again. The ground was fine, and properly tested. And as far as I know about power cabling, the amp should only pull through as much power as it can handle. Simply putting a 60amp fuse in the way does not mean its going to pull in 60 amps. The fact that it blew the fuse shows it was pulling in way more and would have blown a 30 or 15 amp fuse as well. The amp also has fuse protection on the unit. That fuse never blew. The shop I took it to suspected a short in the power terminal. They saw my wiring and I explained everything to them, sending too much power to the amp was never brought up in the conversation. When I asked Jnutz about this, he replied by making this thread. This is what I mean The new amp I have in the system is comparible in every way to the amp he sold me, just a different company. There is no reason why the new amp should work perfectly fine with the system and this one shouldn't, and given the relationship with the selling process I had with him, I had every reason to believe the fault to be (and still do) in his amp and not on my end. Like I said before though, this thread served no purpose other than to attack my credibility and definetly did not need to be created. This post has been edited by Smlogg: May 21, 2005 - 12:02 PM |

sounds like a short, electricity takes the path of less resistance, a wire will pass as much power as it's source can provide minus the resistance.
one thing you did wrong, you should'nt not hooked up the main power when it was live, you're supose to take the fuse out (from ur power wire at ur battery) before hooking it up to the amp. I don't know if that could have caused damage to the amp tho... NEVER put a higher rating fuse, the amp could have been damaged before it came in but by doing that you pretty much left yourself to blame for the amp not working just as much as Jnutz. Because of that you can't tell for sure if you messed up the amp or if the amp came in messed up. I am not going to say anything about the transaction. I think the boards are not the right place to discuss this type of issues. IMO, all threads relating to this should be deleted. -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

lets not be mean here..
it looks like Smlogg put a 60 amp fuse on the power cable to the amp.. NOT IN THE AMP ITS SELF.. (am i right?) the fuse IN the amp should have protected against it shorting itself. most universal wiring kits give you a 60amp fuse to begin with. ( this fuse is not ment to be put INSIDE the amp ) and it should not matter whether you hooked up the wire first and then installed the fuse. because either way.. 12volts is reaching the amp. |

it does matter for installation purposes. You risk easily shorting out, which can burn anything it touches that grounds. Once the power is hooked up solid, it's safe to let current go thru. Like i said, very doubtful it's what caused the problem but still a possibility. smlogg, sorry if you find that i'm being mean, it's just i've seen alot of people mess things up while trying to install an amp. I'm one of them. I don't think you fried your amp tho, i wouldn't go ahead and blame jnutz either. Pyramid amps are a cheap brand, from my experience in electronics, cheap = unreliable. I'm still curious to see what would've caused that short internaly. problems like that doesn't just happen out of nowhere. One thing, pyramid does not make good equipment.
Another, the fuse in the power line is meant to protect the power line, not the amp. When you saw sparks, you probably blew that 60 amp fuse. Disconnect the battery, replace the fuse, make sure everythings wired properly, reconnect the battery, try it out. -------------------- |
