that sounds illogical, would if your exhaust is rusted or a rock hits it and make a hole through it, then you would have to replace it.... riiiight?

One of my buddies got a fix-it ticket the other day for his "muffler" too on his MR2T. Funny thing is, his car isn't loud at all... now he has to go to the BAR referee and have his car smogged and reffed. Sucks. Spent the day yesterday converting his car back to stock.
As for the law, I don't know how it is elsewhere, but from my understanding, you can do whatever the hell you want to the exhaust (minus manifold and air tubes) so long as the cat is there, and the exhaust system isn't too loud. You should fight this in court, and get documentation from Greddy saying their exhaust is street legal. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

i got pulled over with my friend for this not that long ago.
According to the cop, any type of modification to the exhaust is illegal in any way shape or form. Buddy just got a warning but cop said next time hes getting a ticket and has to take it off. Least thats the law here in Wisconsin |

OMG you guys have some strict laws in the States, how the hell do you cope with it????? The UK dosnt look so bad sometimes when I read of things like this, we can do just about whatever we like to our cars hear.
I`d fight that one in court if you have a document saying that the exhaust is street legal in your state. |

get a documentation from Greddy and you should be fine. Greddy exhaust are street legal. last december i had a 2 tickets, one's for loud exhaust but then i had a cheap ebay muffler on a straight pipe without silencer and the other ticket was for modified exhaust. i replaced the muffler with a tanabe racing medallion and had a reciept showing i've replaced the exhaust and they dropped the charges.

Cops are trained on some law but if they don't know they go off of their own "better" judgment, if the ticket is wrong big whoop they were wrong and you lost a day in court. Even if it is common knowledge that something is legal you must consider that a cop in a sense is is the judge and jury and the law is determined by them so to the cop the exhaust was illegal but the court makes the final decision, as most around here know I don't like cops and I have a lot of reasons why, but remember that the most they can do with writing a bogus ticket is waste your time.

I live in Kentucky and we can pretty much do whatever we want. Cops pretty much look the other way a lot here but then again even a lot of state cops get busted all the time for drug trafficking and stuff. |

I also live in New York, and im going to be a cop. And as far as my knowledge goes the cop is correct. Any modification done to your exhaust is illegal. If it breaks or something and you have to fix it, your suppose to use stock parts to do so. Doesn't hurt to fight it. Bring in your receipt for having it done, and tell them it does not say it is illegal. And hopefully you have passed inspection since then and then you could just say that your car has also passed inspection since you have had this modified (bring your inspection receipt too). And just plead your case that you did not even know it was illegal. Either way, it is not a moving violation so not like you will get points on your license or nething. GOOD LUCK

Feel special in my county when you do get a ticket you go wait in line to plead guilty or not guilty and if you plead not guilty they continue it, the judge doesn't even show up until eleven since there are more bogus tickets in the metro region than anywhere i've lived. We just built a new three story building just for traffic violations and the court counted about 200 people pleading innocent when I went last. Tickets around here are based out like BV for anything you can't live in Charlotte without getting at least one.

I guess it also depends on the cop. Last summer when I got pulled over for speeding I thought for sure the cop was gonna point out my exhaust, but he didnt. Just depends on if a cops wants to be a jerk or not
