actually, only now in the caldina gt4 does the 3sgte(4th generation) come mated to an automatic AWD tranny. all previous generations of the 3sgte never came with an automatic tranny Batibot, what kind of celica does you wife have? just because a celica without the 3sgte came in auto doesnt mean all models had an auto tranny as an option. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

I think there where some of the 3sgte's offered in auto - I would check with some of the members overseas to verify that. I do know that the 3sge was offered in a auto so would assume that there where 3sgte's with that option.
You will be able to bolt up an auto transmission to the 3sgte though without ne problem. I would use the 3sge auto tranns though. I dont think you will have to change a few wires on the ecu to make this work correctly. I know that when you do a tranny swap from auto to stick in the 6th gen that there are 2 ecu wires that have to switched or moved but cant remember wich there are -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

i did not say that there are no automatic trannys that bolt up to a 3sgte because there are a few.
but untill the caldina gt4 an auto tranny was never put on a 3sgte which means that you will never find the parts to just bolt them together and have it work. you will need custom work and parts and a custom ecu to control the auto tranny. an ecu from an automatic car might work for a 5spd swap, but an ecu from a 5spd car will NOT work with with an auto tranny so once again, there is only one automatic 3sgte tranny and that is in the brand new gt4, but it is AWD and will be of no use in a simple swap, it will also be very expensive because they are all new parts on the market now. so to find an automatic FWD version IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

what he is saying is that NE transmission that is from the "S" engine family will work with the 3sgte motor - that includes all transmissions for the 5sfe, 3sgte and 3sge. the problem is the ECU - I know that you can swap from a auto to a manual and keep the same ECU - I would ASSUME that would be the same for a ECU set up for a manual to be converted to a auto - I would call Toysport and get there opinion about it.
BTW - Why auto? -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

I would just do the conversion to manual then - ur gonna have to take almost everything out newayz and the conversion to manual isnt all that hard to do in your case ur just gonna need to hang a clutch pedal, run the cable, master and slave cylinoid and just a few other small things - look into it

Hey, I'm sorta new too, what's it going to take to drop a 3S-GTE into my 1997 Toyota Celica GT ST204 Automatic? Will I need to purchase the front clip? Or just certain parts?
I also see they have the 3S-GE in Automatic, would that be a simpler drop, and require less parts? This post has been edited by HyperDeathKill: Apr 20, 2003 - 2:10 PM |

$$$$$$$$$$$ u will spend at least 4-5k if your going to do this, at least if you want a 3sgte thats worth it. diffently dont go with a st165 - buy a later version 3sge cus its better and the Hp is about the same. The best power to money ratio would be a JDM st185 90-93 alltrac motor - its the easiest to get parts for and there where ALOT of the made. If money isnt really that big of an issue then get a ST205 perferable a type "A"/ R/C Also if your gonna do this swap make sure that you dont cut NE corners at all - and sorce all of your parts before starting NE thing! - Im talkin down to the very last little nut and screw cuz once this motor is in the engine bay there really isnt any working on it. BTW for those that have seen a 3sgte pulled out of a motor how do you guys think it compares sizewise to a Chevy 350??? -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |
