Guys and Gals

I want to learn more about FE modifying - specificaly generation 6.

No many people in the UK modify the Gen 6 FE with FI and I'm genuinely interested - and I presumed coming to a forum which deals with such modifications could be the place to learn.

However, my last posts on these threads went completely ignored.

Can I please be given a straight answer to the thread title as its a little off putting, and if i'm not welcome i'll sling my hook.

these are the threads http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...71&#entry296771
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...69&#entry296769
- or is it more a case of my interupting a thread?

I am a member of the celica community and do not understand why I am being seemingly ignored? my posts are skipped past as if i'm on the 'ignore user' list of those following the threads.

I mean no offence.

Regards

Karl.

not being ignored, its just most of us here arent that well informed on the fe head/engine. Its an economic setup and is not made to produce alot of power. Most around here are more worried about trying to swap to the 3sgte.

the 5sfe turbo is still new grounds for most. Talk to kwaza, he'd probably be the best to get techincal w/

many thanks

I will PM kwaza

If I can offer any specific 3SGTE information, i'll be glad to help - I am highly informed and have stage one experience and am now building a stage 3 set up to around 350 max BHP with revision 2 series 3SGTE - stock internals.

my email address is celica@fsmail.net and i'm happy to advise and discuss, any one willing to offer any FE info by email will be hugely thanked.

cheers

ruddy hell - stupid me - I've just looked at the Engine/Transmission/Performance forum and noticed a sticky for FE turbo.

sorry for any offence - again - I should have looked properly instead of barging into threads in the first place. my bad.

cheers

agreed. kwanza and nik are two I can think of that can really answer questions for you. Most of the 7a guys here have accepted the fact that our cars are slow. There are turbo kits made for the 7a, for the 93-97 corolla, which can be modified for the Celica 7a.

I first saw you post about a convertable GT4...I didn't welcome you then, my apologies.

welcome to the US 6GC, biggrin.gif I read the UK celica club forum daily and have bought/sold a few things over there also biggrin.gif

Nik is great when it comes to 7afe, but if were talking FE with FI talk to Presure2 aka Manny he's the guy to talk too.

nik, forkee... are good 7afe information people (hopefully soon i will be myself as well)

pressure2 and itchy are good for 5sfe

but then there are general things that go between the two camps

but you need to specify which "FE" motor you want to use cause the 5sfe is drastically different then the 7afe turbo process....

To actually answer your questions... BTW, I avoid most discussions about boost and custom turbo set-ups because that's not my expertise, but as far as engine mechanics go... heh...

Anyway, yes, the 5SFE and 7AFE are both built to be light weight compared to their GE counterparts. They both have fairly mild rods and their pistons are dished, which serves partially as the combustion chamber. As for the FE head design, it's a great design for optimal torque in the most used "driving range". All of the things you mentioned, I'll confirm... except about the changes in the powerband.

To explain, the FE head is specifically designed to make low-mid range torque, and that's not really gonna change, not even with mild cams or a mild street port job. Perhaps some hardcore porting and some big lift/duration cams can alter things... but typically, the head's original function won't change much, even with boost. The powerband will become exaggerated with boost, but the characteristics will pretty much stay the same. If you notice with all of the other boosted FE heads, the engines almost always made much more torque than horsepower. This is related directly to the head design and in cases to the undersquared design (more so with the 5SFE than the 7AFE). In any case, the FE head is EXCELLENT for boost... every bit as good as the GE head, but only at a different rpm range, arguably, a more useable rpm range. For example, Paradise Racing (http://paradiseracing.com/) built a turbo charged 3RZFE powered AE86 to run 8's in the 1/4 mile. Their set-up... FULLY built bottom-end... STOCK FE head. That says a thing or two about the efficiency for the FE head, and it's ability to be force fed... All in all... if you have questions, typically, we have answers.

Seems like all of the cool topics happen when I'm gone and can't access the internet for days at a time... anyway... greetings from Minnesota!
