I heard about this item a few months ago. It may work but it is definitely overpriced. A lot of people at the time that responded to my post suggested just making your own for a tenth of the price.

Does this thing really work?

it will make your car faster a little more than an intake. BUT many cars have ridiculously restrictive intake systems, so putting an intake with a fan on it might kick up your power noticeably, but only as much as a regular intake would. it's not gonna give you much more than that, and if you already have an intake, it won't do anything.

i imagine the HP claims are on like, v8s.

I'm surprised, but I think you're completely wrong on this one. Intakes don't offer much performance anyways, but this thing probably reduces performance (increased air resistance). You realize that all it is, is a spiral shaped cookie cutter placed in the intake tube, it's not an electric fan (which are equally useless anyhow). The theory behind it is that the turbulence of the air entering the intake tube is reduced as a result of the spiral-shaped fins, letting it magically flow into the throttle body more "effectively," leading to +30 HP rolleyes.gif There's a reason they only sell this inexpensive piece of crap in info-mercials.

IF groundwires can make power, so can a cookie cutter. i say try it, (I'd make my own personally though)

groundwires improve hp by overcoming energy resistance. You can buy a kit for over 100 beans, or you could just buy some 8 gauge wire and some connectors, I grounded my car for less than 30.,

oh and yeah, those spiralmax things are ghey and don't do ****

uh yea

those spiral max things are not safe

what is to prevent those little fans breaking off and going into your engine?

and it blows the same amount of air at ALL rpms. so think of it like this. would you run full boost while waiting for a train? probably not. i know that's a little more than what actually happens but you get the idea. get a custom cold air intake for 30 or so. just buy the pipes and filter.

i dont think moving air could break the weld on a piece of machine aluminum. i believe it works my friend has one on his astro van he loves it.

yeah, i wouldn't be afraid of a fin breaking. the speed of the air on an NA engine won't do it. if you put one right behind a turbo of something, then the speed of the air might be able to do something.

why get the spiralmax P.O.S. if you have a turbo?

don't say lag either because if you have a 5s-fe you better not be running any turbo big enough to get lag.

i didn't mean for that to sound like you should get it if you have a turbo. i don't think anyone should have one. i don't think they'll do anything.
i was talking about the issue that had been brought up about it breaking earlier....here is what i mean.
if you have that in the intake of an NA engine, the fins aren't gonna break. the air isn't flowing through it fast enough. then with my turbo comment i meant that if someone would put one in behind a turbo (stupid/useless), that would be the only time you could make run a risk of a fin breaking because the turbo is pushing air through it much faster.
but even still, i don't think it would break in either situation.

just don't buy one, imo

EDIT: and if you put it behind a turbo, i don't think it would make the lag (if any) any better or worse.
