i have my celi sitting in my garage with the engine halfway out, i have a 94 ST.. i just bought a 97 ST motor a few days ago and its sitting in my garage waiting to be put in... from what the people told me at the yard where i got the engine from is it would bolt right up and electricals should be fine.. but my friend who is putting in the engine for me was wondering if the 97 ST engines had OBD 2 and if the electricals would hook up right.. or else i could have a problem.. if anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated..

Yeah you're going to have to decide which ECU to use, if you use the '94 harness and ECU then you should be able to swap just about everything over and that's probably the easiest way. If the sensors give you trouble just swap over the long block (use your intake manifold) and the exhaust manifolds should be the same. Or you can convert it to OBDII but that will be a pain.

Dr. Tweak
I have to ask, what is the diffrence with the OBD2 car's wiring. What makes it a pain to convert OBD1 to OBD2.

Thanks

Well, with OBD2 you have a plug under the dash, for one thing. Most of it is just involved with the ECU, it wouldn't be hard to convert at all, it would take me a day at most, but if you're not comfortable with wiring then don't try it.

Also the OBD1 makes more power due to a more aggresive tune.

dude, all you'll need to change over is your distributor, and MAYBE your egr valve.
i have a 98 5sfe in my 94. that was all we had to change over. wink.gif
thats IF your using your harness and ecu.

The engines are pretty much the same minus a few electrical components (knock sensor, crank sensor, etc...) You don't need to swap any of that... just swap the bare engine into your exsisting harness/sensors.
