So I decided to finally go full aftermarket with the speakers in my celica. problem is that I have the premium audio package. I have a total of 8 speakers in my car.
These include:
8" paper woofers in the door
4"midrange components in the door
3/4" tweeters in the door
6x9 in the rear.

I have already purchased a Pioneer 8600MP for the HU. And pioneer's 3 way 6x9 and 4" speaker. Would any one have any recommendations on subs that will fit the door? I want sound thats loud and crisp. I was going to go with Polk Momo 8" subs. Any further suggestions?

I am going to make sure to get pictures of the project. I plan on moving the battery to the back. I have to do all custom wiring because of a funky "not standard" premium amp (the wiring harness for the 89+ toyotas doesnt match). Any comments would be more than helpful.

Yes thought about an amp. Im not sure which model yet, but I know I want to wire the 6x9's and the 8's up. No way that the HU will power them to my liking. Does any 8" woofer fit the door? Depth and vibration a problem?

If you want to go with an 8 inch sub ( and not an 8 inch woofer, which I think is what the factory is ), I would definitely recommend an aftermarket amp.

How about this scenario: a 4 ch amp to power the subs and 6x9s, and your head unit to power the 4s and the tweets?

As far as the depth question, our doors DO have a decent amount of depth. The problem is that if you want to use the factory mount for the speaker, you don't have much room for any size magnet on the speaker. In other words, the hole where the magnet would poke through is not very big. If you're willing to create your own speaker mount and maybe do a little cutting into the door - then YES, there's room.

One last note on the subs: If you are buying TRUE subs, and not just woofers, then make sure you get something that is designed for infinite baffle and NOT for an enclosure. Unfortunately, most subs are designed for enclosures of some sort. If you don't, you probably won't be happy with the results.

what exactly is the difference between "subwoofer" and "woofer"? I'll make sure to inquire about infinite baffle.

subwoofers play lower, and woofers are mid ranges that play midrange frequencies... if you want the best sound get some components... you will want to power your woofers and speakers with an amp... id power everything off the amp and the 6x9"s off the deck.. actually...if you want an 8" subwoofer in your door, it needs to be free air capable... Kicker and JL have some of these that can suit your needs.. anyway as i said... power the Speakers off the deck, and the component set and sub/woofers off the amp... what kind of components do you have anyways?

i say defffffs do that. Pointikng the subs inward will give them more "bump" as heard mostly in techno. Instead of sounding muddy they will be more crisp and accurate...

Not to mention practicality...do you really want to do that kind of custom cutting? so much easier to mount em backwards

I'm actually going to go with a mid-bass driver in the doors. I'll have to figure out a way to put in two tens with out sacrificing any of the trunk space, which I need. If any of you have suggestions on good locations, with out going too custom, it would be awesome. PICS?

invert mounting a subwoofer will not change the sound of the driver one bit (ie, it won't give them more "bump) but what it will do is allow the possibility of more audible motor noise (anything from tinsel lead slap to hitting the backplate)...main benefit of invert mounting a sub is looks--no more, no less...

peace
