I dunno why, but when i pound the gas, i have alot of torque steer (aka car pulls hard to the left)....i was wondering, is this normal and if it is, how do i get rid of it?? Would an LSD work???

can u describe for me exactly what gear u are in...what the steering wheel does....etc when u feel it ?

any gear, wheel pulls to the right, and alot of force on the wheel...and my suspention is fine, i just did all of my front stuff and its in alignment...n its fine goin striaght when im cruzing..but if i punch the gas and start goin through the gears hard, it pulls to the right..but thats only for 1st and 2nd gear..when i hit 3rd im fine and goin straight

You are not the only one, man. My ST does it just by boosting a little bit...with my 17" Enkeis. It is ridiculous...it either pulls to the left or to the right...COMPLETELY. If I take off at WOT, I have to battle the steering wheel...it is depressing.

Is it just me or does the Celica come with an LSD. I'm not to familier with LSD's coming from the domestic side it's all about posi, well I could have sworn the three major types of diffs. were open, limited slip, and posi, which since both wheels on the Celica do spin (not with the same power all the time) means they fall into the LSD catagory. Of course there are different types of LSD's, such as the Preludes Torsen, it's the same with posi's (Eaton E-Locker, Detroit, they aren't just different brands). To help you out the Celica is notorious for torque steer, especially on a launch, we aren't the only cars that suffer from it, the Tiburon GT V6 is even worse for it at 60 mph it likes to yank you toward the right when floored, and I believe Preludes are bad for it also (Kwanza verify that).

the celica dosnt have any type of lsd

im kind of trying to diagnose a similar problem in my car. mine only happens at high speeds. it seems that as soon as i touch the gas....even a little bit, my steering wheel will tilt left. as if the car is trying to pull right, and the car is trying to correct it the same way it does when u come out of a turn an let go of the wheel. this only really happens at 55mph or more.

i think the issue could be partly caused by worn motor mounts.

under normal tq steer (like when im trying to get the most power out of the car) my car seems to go left or right from Tq steer. this is normal.

i talked to other turbo celica guys... and they say their car dosnt do what mine is doing.

today i also discovered one crossmember bolt that was a little loose ane one that was totaly loose because it was striped. maybe they have something to do with it.

Not to take it off of subjuct but what is it? I know it's not open because both wheels leave rubber when I launch and open designs break traction on only one wheel (older S-10's break back right only), and it sure isn't posi, is it possible I have an LSD?

no you dont have an lsd. Its just both wheels will move, but when one slips thats it all the power is going to that one, ebcause there is not a lock to send power to the other wheel. With the mount of power our cars ahve stock its not worth having an lsd, if you do a swap, then it would be worth it.

im pretty sure that LSD and Posi are the same thing

there still are 3 types of diff.'s: open, lsd/posi(some slip), and locker(no slip)

none of the USDM celicas came with a LSD from the factory

the reason why your car leaves 2 tire marks is because it is fwd, the weight transfer that results from a launch makes for reduced traction to both wheels, allowing both wheels to spin. an open diff RWD vehicle will tend to spin one wheel due to the added traction from the weight transfer. which tire spins depends on the rotation of the engine/driveshaft which puts more force on one side of the car giving that side more traction

Kinda difficult to explain how an LSD affects a car's nature without actually showing the affects from the driver's seat. For the most part, torque steer is pretty normal for most FWD cars because of the way the drive axles are set-up. It'll be more noticeable with higher powered vehicles. It really shouldn't be too big of an issue for street cars, since there's no time attack or anything involved. It's just one of those things.

yes what kwanza said is basically true. just keep in mind that things like old motor mounts can make things a lot worse. so if your car is doing something that you feel is strange and shouldnt be happening, check the motor mounts.

I think I need to go back to HSW, see on the domestic side we called locker, posi for muscle cars and lockers were lockers it's what we used in boggers and rock crawlers. I guess I got my slang and technical terms mixed.

thats a locked diff... not really something you would want on a street car. the best bet for us is to upgrade to the mr2 lsd, but there is no need for it untill u are making a lot of hp

ball joints are fine, my drivers side tie rods got some play in it. thats the only thing thats wrong with my suspention, i checked it out my self and got 2 of my mechanic buddies to check it out when they put my springs in.

mines is the same though i have 170 odd ponys under the bonnet biggrin.gif

iv been told by a few peeps its due to the left hand wheel having the shortest driveshaft meaning that gets the most torgue

im no expert so just going by what iv heard so could be bull for all i know

A LSD will not work beacause the Acura TL has a lot of torque-steer and a LSD , but it dosen't do anything about the torqe-steer. I thought the Celica had equal length driveshafts, and that torque steer only occured in unequal-lengthed driveshaft cars.

celica has one long axel passengers side and one short one on the drivers side.

kind of funny how the celica is so realiable of a car that most owners dont bother to get under it and look.
