is it a good idea to swap my tranny to a mr2-t (since I must change my tranny anyway for a swap) an keeping my 5sfe then saving for a 3rd gen 3sgte? or that tranny are no no with 5sfe? also, if i decide to get a 2rd gen 3s, will the tranny still be compatible?

ok you can't use the gt-4 tranny because it's am awd tranny. your best bet for the 3sgte motor is the mr2-T tranny since that will bolt up to the motor no problem

ok but this doesnt answer 100% my question

does the mr2-t tranny works good with a 5sfe (while Im saving $ for 3sgte)?

also , does the tranny good for both 2nd & 3rd gen 3sgte?

Yes... but swapping in the tranny is as hard as swapping in the motor... The E153 trans are actually more difficult to swap in than the actual 3SGTE motor because they need somewhat custom mounts and axles regardless of what engine bay you're working with (GT or ST). I'd wait... No point in jumping the gun...

To answer your basic question... they do bolt up... but the input shafts are different so you'll need a different clutch disc...

And if you're going to do the tranny swap, it's easier to use the E153 out of a V6 Camry/Solara, since they're already set up for FWD.

ok...the mr2-t tranny is gonna be a very difficult install...its coming out a rwd car so you have to turn it around and get new half shalfts, linkages, and i think reweld one of the mounts on the tranny to a different location...personally if i was doing the 3s swap i would use the 5sfe tranny...its bolt ups just fine and i havent heard of any failing yet under the power of the 3s...as for using the mr2-t..dont put it in now unless ur 5s tranny is dead because its gonna be a definate hassal fitting it into your car..the 5s should bolt up though considering it is an s series transmission and engine combination...so if you plan on using the mr2-t wait till u get the 3s and do it all at once

If you have a clip you just use the linkage and stuff from the awd tranny. You don't weld any mounts on to the transmission either.

...personally if i was doing the 3s swap i would use the 5sfe tranny...its bolt ups just fine and i havent heard of any failing yet under the power of the 3s...as for using the mr2-t

Not true, it depends on the power you are shooting for. I've talked to XAT and the guy who is going to be doing my swap and both have told me that that 5s tranny is only good to around 250 hp. Also there are people on here who have replaced the 5s because it has failed.

You are right about not swaping the tranny unless your 5s tranny is going out, it is pointless and will be just as much a hassle as swaping the motor, so why not wait.

Everyone keeps forgtting, Its a RWD car but setup exactly like a FWD car because the engine is in the back also.

It's not set up exactly the same. It's set up very similarly, but when taking a RWD transmission and putting it in a FWD car, there is some disagreement at the shafts -- ah, no need to repeat.

Minor stuff, like changing the linkage bracket and what not, the shafts you cant use anyways.
