What do you need to modify to shoot nitrious in your car? I have an ST so do I need to do anything to it before I buy a bottle and hook things up? And exactly when do you use nitrious, what RPM's? I might wanna try it out!

depends on how big of a shot your gonna use, as to what modifications you need to do, also only use it at wide open throttle and above 3000 rpms. let me know exactly what your aiming for and i'll let you know how to do it.

I think that NOS is such a waste of money...Why get a SHOT of NOS that would last you like 5 seconds when you can turbo or do a swap and gain performance for as long as you have your car?? Just my opinion though...im not a big fan of NOS

i also hate it when people (nobody in particular ) call it NOS when we are talking about nitrous. there is NOS, Compucar, Edelbrock, Nitrous Express, Zex, etc.......... it is nitrous oxide in general. bunch a' torettos!!!!!

I think nitrous is one of the cheapest horse power mods you can get. It may only last a couple of seconds, but thats all it takes to kick someones ass!!! Plus the fact that it is only used for a couple of seconds means that it won't kill the motor as fast. Nitrous is a good mod, especially if you dont have the money for a turbo setup, and it looks really f*cking cool when you purge. I say go for it.

HA, Why did the floorpans fall off anyway, and what was spitting out those green bolts? : )
ANYWAY, N2O is great for the money. On an engine like ours it can last up to 15 seconds on one shot. (running it at low RPM's is REALLY bad though.) |

I think the easiest nitrous upgrades you can do is the Zex dry nitrous system. You can buy a Zex cone filter to put on an intake and it has a place to put the nitrous injecter so you dont have to drill a hole in your intake tube. It injects the nitrous into the intake so you don't need to do half as much installation with selenoids etc... Just install the nozzle with or without the Zex air filter (it just makes it easier with that) install the bottle, install the computer unit, run some wires and install arming switch. The nitrous is administered when the system is armed and your at wide open throttle so you can screw up the timing you should shoot.

The most popular and safer kit for our cars is the Zex dry kit. I think they only have 55, 65, and 75 shot jets, but you can probably run either one fairly safely, without doing serious long-term damage to your car. Damage to your vehicle while running nitrious is all on the driver... All you need for the install, a drill, screwdrivers, wire cutters/strippers, and cooler spark plugs. Running low shots, you can probably get away with not retarding the timing... but I can't say for sure. I've ran up to a 75 shot, with little problems. I only sprayed while racing, and it was always in mid 3000rpm, in either 2nd or 3rd gear. 2nd isn't very safe... but you can. |

When using a shot of nitrous, what happens when you shift gears?

Just get a zex kit, they are the easiest to use and install. All you have to do is drive the car, and the nitrous takes care of itself.

On the older 94-95 Celica's... retarding the timing is done simply by turning the distributor a certian number of negative degress. Of course, use a timing light and make sure you have your adjustments done correctly. On the newer OBD-II 96-99 Celica's, adjusting the timing is done with an OBD tool (little computer gizmo)... Retarding the timing means, basically, retards the ignition of the spark plug to fire slighty after TDC (top dead center, when the piston fully compresses the air/fuel misture). As far as Nitrious engaging between shifts, when the throttle isn't wide open, I think it retards and delays until the throttle is wide open again before engaging. Like I mentioned before, try not to spray in 2nd, unless you know what you're doing. Spraying in 3rd gear is safer because unless you're gonna run 13's or 14's... you probably won't shift past 3rd in a 1/4 mile drag...=] |
