I'm fixing my car myself on a budget, and I don't want to pay a few hundred dollars to have my trunk lid and rear plate panel repainted. I'm almost done getting the two parts completely smooth and ready for primer, and once I shoot primer over the repaired areas I plan to attempt to use my shoot some close-matching yellow paint and some clear onto the damaged areas and try to blend the colors somewhat.

I can already tell though that it's not gonna be pretty. It'll be better than being damaged though, and better than spending loads of money on a car that's already keyed all over and such. The other night though, I had an idea to use some sort of vinyl graphics to cover up the repainted area on the rear. The soon-to-be-repainted area is highlighted below.

I'm trying to think of what I could put there to cover up the repainted area. It's going to have to be a monochrome design, because I'm going to go with one color of vinyl.

Graphics would be cool, and/or so would text. Maybe something having to do with 6GC.net or Twin Cam 20(like my valve cover) or TRD or something...I dunno...basically I'm open to pretty much anything.

So if you have ideas I'd love to hear them. Even better though would be if you could photoshop them onto my car. Below is the original pic you could use, or I can give you a different one. Thanks!

Edit: I already shaved the key hole on the license plate panel, and I could shave the Toyota logo on the trunk lid if needed. I'm open to pretty much anything...maybe I could even relocate the plate below and make the entire license plate panel flat.

That was my idea, but maybe a solid color... and for the other spot put "20 valve" it'd be a cost efficient way to mainly cover it up and what's not covered up isn't too noticeable... and when you did repaint it... not too hard to fix. That's my idea

I actually think it might look sharp if you were to paint the licence plate panel black or get one off a wrecked black coupe.....then over the bottom of the trunk lid, make a really nice wide-spaced graphic that says "Twin Cam 20" or Twin Cam 20 Valve" like your valve cover says. But if the lettering was small and really subtle but widely spaced to fill as much length as the whole length of the lisence plate panel....but on the trunk part. wink.gif

However, I also like the sound of using the filled lisence plate method. That would look really smooth with the graphic on the back of the trunk.

OK, I just finished painting the repaired area...tomorrow I'm going to sand it down a bit, then attempt to fade the paint around the edges, and then shoot some clear over the area.

There's the area that I need graphics for. Any ideas anyone? smile.gif

Coom, you should left uncovered bigger area then painting, then instead of painting till the ends, just faided a bit with the paint. It would be easer then to sand and to match everything.... Now you will have edges, and edges will stand out more..

Definately put some kind of "Twin Cam 20 Valve" logo across the bottom of the trunk lid, I think personally that might look best.

I wetsanded the hard edges with 600 grit sandpaper and I made them very smooth...I just shot the first coat of paint faded into the rest of the paint, and I think it'll come out ok. smile.gif

I'll have to photoshop the TWIN CAM 20 and the CELICA ideas and see what I like. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated. smile.gif

I don't think there's such a thing as cheap carbon fiber. Enough material and epoxy resin to cover the trunk lid and rear plate area would cost so much money. And I don't want the imitation vinyl stuff. wink.gif
