window, way off track, convertible quarter window Options

ok, my rear quarter window on the passenger side has been giving me hell since i bought the car. now i tried to roll it up and it wouldnt go so kind of yanked on it but not too hard and it got put off track. how do i go about getting it back on track?

first, you have to cuss at it. then u take out ur side panels (i personally dont own a vert) but ur gonna have to pop the whole interior side panel off and get dirty.

After you get the window back on track, you may want to have a look at the switch that raises/lowers the window. I have a 96 conv. and about a year ago the right rear window began giving me trouble. The window wouldn't always raise and/or lower unless I pushed the switch several times, but then it stopped working altogether (in the lowered position, of course!).
I removed the trim around the shifter, then removed and disassembled the switch and cleaned the contacts with an electrical contact cleaner spray. I found a lot of gook inside the switch. While I was at it, I also cleaned the switch for the left rear window and the switch that raises/lowers the conv. top. It took me less than an hour.

yea, ive done that as soon as a bought the car cause my windows were acting up. now i can see the problem with the window being off track but i cant get to it. has anyone fixed their own window that could help me out in trying to simply take off panels so i can get to the window?

you know ive seen a few vert celicas with this problem. i personally dont care for verts myself. you should be able to get to the window. i get to mine but it was not the vert one. look in the chiltons book.

I had to do this to mine last week so I'll walk you through it the best I can.
1st you don't need to remove the whole interior panel, just the one on top held in with the 2 screws and the pop screw in back by the seat.
2nd: There are 2 bump stops, one in front and one in back held in with 10mm bolts and what look like fender clips with bolt on the other side. when you remove the bolts make sure you don't drop them because you probably won't be able to retreave them from the bottom of the quarter well. Once these bump stops are out you can put the window about 3/4 up
3rd: With the window 3/4 up you need to remove the actuator rod from the rear of the frame holding the window. For this you will need a 10mm and 12mm open end wrench. There is a small thin washer on the bold, make sure you don't lose it.
4th: Once this is off you can pull the window out and reposition it in the track. Typically what happens however is that one of the three plastic wheels that hold it in the track snaps. If this is the case you'll need to replace the triangular metal frame that is attached to the window. You can't get just the wheels you must replace the whole frame. It costs about $40 and you can cet it from Jeff at Toyota World.
5th: When you are putting the window back in place a thin piece of cardboard or something similar in between th window and outer seal, this will allow it to slide in easier. Make sure all the wheels are in the tracks then pus it down about 3-4 inches. Reconnect the actuator rod then put hte window all the way DOWN.
6th: Reinstall the bump stops LOOSELY in position. With the top down and front window up put the rear window back up untill it stops on its own. Now tighten the bumpstops. You're done...

About 1 hour. Just do it step by step and you shouldn't have any problems. Order the part before you take everything apart. Most dealers can get it in a day or two. If you order it from Toyota World maybe 3 days to ship it.
