OK has anyone got the 4A GE and Put a turbo on it
this is somthing i'm thinking about doing getting the 4A GE (whole front clip) and just adding a custom turbo. -------------------- |

im sure there are alot of those old 86s with those on.....
would u rather do that than the swap of the 4agze? |

You are right. It is way better to use the 4agze and turbocharge that than to use the 4AGE. But I will honestly say that here in the hot and humid Caribbean, 4AGE + T have been successful turbo charge here in a crude way and stands up. The most internal change is just forged pistons and an oil cooler. I Know that the 4AGE 20v silver and black top comes with piston oil coolers. I am not sure if the 4age 16v has them. If you can get a 4AGE 20v Silver top, use that instead and then you can turbocharge that to 240 very comfortable and easily with very light engine work. -------------------- West_Minist

Are you thinking about a 16 valve or 20 valve 4A-GE? I'm not sure on the compression ratios of the older 16v engines, but the 20v engines have high compression ratios that would have to be lowered in order to turbo the engines through the use of internal engine parts such as low compression pistons. Also, I don't think the internals on the 20v engines can withstand a lot of boost without modifications, so you'd probably end up spending a lot of money on hard to find internal parts from Japan, as well as the turbo, manifold, intercooler, etc.
I think that you'd end up spending a lot of money, and it'd probably be cheaper to do a ST185 3S-GTE swap, plus chances are that you'd have more power, unless you really build up the engine and get some nice turbo components. On the other hand, it'd be very, very unique, and it'd be completely awesome to have a turbocharged, high-revving engine with the technology that the 20 valve 4A-GE has such as quad throttle bodies and five valves per cylinder. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Toda Racing offer all 4age 16v,20 parts St185 would be a good swap Either way, once you change to forge piston, you have the option for compression levels. You can either choose between 8.0 - 9. If you are planning to turbo, go for an vavle angle job or a general head clean. As I stated coomer, you can turbocharge high compression engines. You only have to make sure you have gas and not too much boost like over 10psi. The main problem I see here is the 20v since there can intake more air than a 4v head. So injector upgrades are neccessary. I think the 20v caris 280 or 310cc injectors. An increase to 420-550 would do very good. I have seen more 20v engines damage here due to the lack of ffuel more than anything else. |

Once you understand the risk, everything will be good.
Either way, it is not a big deal. Just keep your eye on oil levels, oil temperature and boost levels and boost spike, engine temperature, exhaust temp. and A/F meter. Once you adhere to these parameters, you will be happy. |

There are more advantages in the lone run with the 4AGE. Call up ToySport or ask around for another dealer. |
