Yeah, but it's also 6 years old. And my thought is that given that it's been driven a lot means it's going to like to be driven a lot (I plan to go about 25K a year on it).

heh, that makes no sense at all. that is a lot of miles for a 99. my 98 5sfe would be at about 60,000 right now.

ON of the pics of the Engine bay (??) says 04/99 So that means april 99. And for 6 years that is not alot of miles if it was used daily to drive around. 16k miles a year.

16x6=96

the correct math works out to about 19,083 miles a year

Oops sorry. Thought it was 101k not 111k. Could be a Business driver that had to drive a lot in a day. Looks like it if you look at the interior + options.

Around 20,000 a year isn't that bad, we are talking about a Toyota.

Makes perfect sense. When you subject something to a consistant and repetitive pattern it gets used to that pattern and will function around it. Make a drastic change to that pattern and failure will happen. I've seen it with cars before. Someone takes a barely driven car and turns it into a commuter car, which subsequently falls apart. Or vice versa, someone takes a higher mileage car and relegates it to weekend duty, and it falls apart. It's not 100% true all the time, but happens enough to be viewed as a plausible theory.

Exactly my thought. Toyota's will run forever if treated right. Besides, if it needs a new motor, that's a very easy and relatively cheap fix and swap.

Well, I just got off the phone with the guy. It's an old man that owns it, which speaks mounds, and he's only selling it because his arthritis is making it difficult to drive. According to him, the car is rust free, has a quarter size dent in the roof just above the driver door and a couple of quarter sized dents in the passenger door along the lower portion. He said he just had the car professionally buffed to clean up any swirl marks and that there's absolutely no fading or oxodizing at all. Hell, even in the pics the engine bay is clean.

So I went for it. I'll be picking it up on Sunday, and after a healthy detail by yours truely will be posting pics shortly thereafter. I'm pretty psyched because it's fully loaded and I LOVE the two tone coloring with the interior.

biggrin.gif If you do I'm going to seek damages. redface.gif

I can't wait to get it. I'm so stoked, and now the patience card comes into play.

One thing I'm half tempted to do is just hold on to it with the registration it has now for six months to avoid paying the sales tax on it. It's got a current registration and in PA if you own for 6 months or more then you don't have to pay taxes for the title transfer. Sneaky, I know, but I'm on a budget with an upcoming wedding.

Yeah, it's only going to be $450 for taxes, so it's not going to kill me, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I talked to him about that and he said that it only does it after sitting for close to a week. Hence the "extended time" wording. And even then, it's just a brief puff on startup.

Most likely exhaust collection in the cat, not to unusual, being white could also mean it has a lean start but it's hard to say on a fuel injected car, you might want to get the injectors cleaned just in case.

Yea mine does that too.
I rarely drive my car, only on the weekends.
And everytime I start it up there is a bit of smoke then it goes away.
I think darksecret is right cause i remember someone telling me something like that.
