I need to get a new clutch for my 3s, I have an exedy in my car now which I like it doesn't slip at all. I can get a new exedy clutch kit for way less than I can get a spec 2 or 3, I don't have any big power plans in the near future so will the stock replacement or stage 1 be enough for the 3s engine? BTW it is a 3s clutch kit made for the mr2t and the celica alltrac not the 5s.
Only people who have the swap or the same engine reply please. |

If your hp is stock, a stock or "stock-replacement" clutch is fine.

One thing to think about though - if you abuse your clutch or decide to upgrade power in the future, the extra cost for a spec II or clutchmasters III (both have 300whp capability and stock like feel) will seem like money well spent rather than doing another clutch swap later.

a stage one clutch for the 3sgte with mr2 tranny is not the same thing as a stage 1 for the 3sgte with a gt tranny.
dont be cheap with the clutch, is one of those things u want to do rigth the 1st time. call up spec or clutchmasters and tell them what tranny u have with what motor, and how much power u want the disk to hold. then they can make you a custom disk with the spline counts that fit your tranny, but the holding power that works with your motor. I have the e153 tranny so I dont really need a custom clutch. Just an mr2 turbo clutch kit should work fine.

Yea the main thing I'm worried about is how much hp is a stock clutch good for? The motor is a jdm so it has more HP than the USDM so if I do any mods I'm might be slipping.
