Power Door Locks, Help Options

so when you start the car.. you know how your doors automatically lock themselves, and then likewise, when you turn it off they unlock? Yeah mine stopped doing that the other day. I didn't notice until now. When I start it, or even turn it to just the "on" position they don't lock, so then I manually lock them, but then when I turn the car off they dont unlock.. does anyone know what could be wrong??

I'm thinkin maybe disconnected wire or dead relays

so where do you think I should start looking for the dead wire? the door? or under the dash?

First step is to check out the power lock diagrams, then I would start looking near the ignition switch...

they do what? mind dont do that, when you flip one open they both unlock and vise-versa, but when I start the car they don't, my alarm still works the locks and all the buttons work though.

Ditto. Neither my 94 or 95 does it.

Maybe it's an aftermarket system, part of the alarm?

Yeah, we need more info. Do you have an aftermarket alarm or keyless entry setup of some sort?

yeah I have a clifford alarm/keyless entry. It works fine, nothing wrong with that, but when I get in and turn the car on my doors will automatically lock, but it stopped doing that. When I get my car taken in for its 90K tune up I will just have them take a look, that is if it doesnt bug the crap out of me before then..

I think it might have started when my dad took my car to town the other day. He doesnt like to use the alarm for some reason, so he always sticks the key into the door to lock it, but then on his way out to the car from the store he turned the alarm on, and then off to unlock the doors, could that have done something to it?

Well, the alarm/keyless entry unit is what makes the door locks do that I believe. I don't think it's a factory thing to have ignition controlled door locks.

You could try configuring your alarm and turn on ignition controlled door locks and see if that works. Your installation manual should have information on how to do this.

I did not install the alarm system, one of the previous owners did, so I have nothing about the installation.. another thing that got ripped from me when I bought it, along with the owners manual and stock wheels.

search for a user manual online for your car alarm system. I bet they will have a paragraph about how to turn on or off this feature. Sounds like just the right combination of buttons was pressed on your remote to disable it.
