Ive been wanting an exhaust for my car for a long time, but i kno i will never have the time to put it in the garage and i dont have that great of an income, so i was thinking maybe if i just got a hi-flo cat and a muffler it would sound just as good, because my friend has an integra and he just got a muffler put on and it sounds like he has an exhaust, perfect sound. What are your opinions guys? what kind of cat and muffler?

Changing your cat on a GTS means doing a custom exhaust, pretty much, since the cat is integrated between the exhaust manifold and the downpipe, essentially acting as the collector. You could try dismantling your exhaust to see if the cat is clogged, and therefore if you need to replace it. However, replacing a direct-fit cat such as the one on the 5SFE is generally three times as expensive as changing to a new universal cat (not counting the new exhaust piping).
While I agree with playr to keep your resonator, I'd suggest a more substantial muffler. Something like a MagnaFlow universal, which looks stock and is just about as quiet until you really punch it, yet because of its straight-through design will flow as well or better than any fart cannon. |

so if i bring them a cat and muffler and tell them to put them on, i cant have the cat done because its part of the exhaust system itself?

1 is connected to the header the other is under the car you can only replace the one under the car inorder to replace the one onthe header you have to get a custom header |

you can replace the one under the car with a high-flow part. basicly creating a new exhaust system from the bottom of your stock "header/cat" combo back.
you'll get minimal gains. good luck -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I dont really care if i get any gains, which is practically impossible for this car anyways, i just want it to sound good.

Cali cars have the dual cats AFAIK, non-CARB jurisdictions have only one between the manifold and the downpipe. That's a direct-fit, and expensive.
