hi, i have an annoying popping/knocking noise every time i press the gas, let go of the gas when accelerating and sometimes going over bumps...i've noticed this ever since i installed my tein s-tech and kyb gr2s...at first i thought i might had did something wrong when installing the springs and shocks but i've removed them and reinstalled all of them and is still making the noise. rite now i'm thinking it is the stabilizer links or bushings but have no idea on how to check them! can someone help me figure out what's the problem!
oh yea, the noise comes mostly on the front left and rear left and a little on the rear right... thanks inadvance! need to get rid of this annoying noise! -------------------- |

hmm..pretty sure it isn't the engine mounts because the noise comes from the rear also and i got it after installing springs and shocks, so i'm guessing it has to do with suspension... -------------------- |

J-Type, check ur sway bar end links. When i put my S-Techs and GR2s in, when they took my old ones out, they hit my end link on the rear sway bar and theres a crap load of play in it. And when i hit the gas or hit a speed bump theres a big knock sound..i say check for play in ur swaybar end links. u can get them from any local Crappy Tire store for i think $60 or somethin like that. I used to have the part number but i cant find it n e more.

I agree with Dr tweak, had very similar problem and it was a loose engine mount.

Sure you have to top strut mounts seating properly? The they have marks on them which are supposed to face outwards.

i'm pretty sure i put the marks facing outwards...but i'll take it apart again and double check. is it possible for a strut mount to go bad and need replacing? Very possible, since they're basically rubber bonded to metal. If the rubber or the glue breaks down, you get the noise I got -- quiet clunking that grew louder, to be joined with squeaks and moans when going over speed bumps.
Replacements are easy to find -- KYB, Dorman, Monroe, and of course Toyota. |

so i should replace my strut mounts with new ones? actually, i think it could be my strut mounts because i pulled out the front supension and saw that the round groove part that is suppose to line up with the cartridge spindle is oval now, so i'm guessing it got bent and for the rear, the one side groove part rounded the top mount and im guessing due to too much torque when tighting. i'm gona try replacing it with new ones and hope it works... thanks again everyone for helping out!
