Vibratin steering wheel???, HELP HELP HELP Options

I have winter tires on the car right now, I will be changing them next week. The car runs and handles perfect below 60MPH. But when I get on the highway the damn steering wheel starts to vibrate like crazy. What do u think is wrong?
Alighment? Balance (wheels)?

only when driving fast or while braking? if its while braking u need new rotors but idkk about high speeds

I think alignment is when your car pulls to one side. You probably need your wheels balenced.

I have the same prob. under 60 im cool 70 high vibration 80-100 my whole friggin car shakes.

try getting your wheels rebalanced. and if you have aftermarket wheels, ask about hub rings. they do wonders.

its a balance problem in the wheels, take em to discout tire or something and it will fix the problem.

I had that problem with my old wheels, though it might be blown shocks (because that can cause the wheel to shake as well, but it was a balance issue only)

Thanks, I am gonna change the tires next week so I am gonna get balancing done too. it better fix the problem cuz I am getting sick of it.

Its not the brakes, I just changed the pads and it really smooth and nice when I brake.

i have the same problem, but when i took it to discount they said that it is probably because my tires are VERY worn and they may have already developed bulges, i just don't feel the effect of them untill about 60-65mph. they said that i should get new tires soon, very soon (on the other hand...they ARE a tire dealer).

i got the same problem, but my tires are perfectly balanced. I did them my self on a snap-on ballance machine, so any one know what might be the problem? i also have a little play in one of my tie rod ends, but i dont think it would cause that much vibration.

Like I said I am gonna be changing my tires next week, if the vibration stops I will tell. My winter tires are in perfect shape, the dude who owned the car got them in the begining of this winter.

I created a post a few days ago, because I had this same fricken problem. Turns out that I had 2 bent rims, both on the driver side. Do you remember hitting any potholes or anything else in the road? My advice is take it to a tire/ wheel place and have them check to see if any of your wheels are bent. If it's one of the front ones that is bent, have them rotate it to the rear. You'll feel the vibration more in the rear and in the seats as opposed to in the front and in the steering wheel. Just my $0.02...

also make sure the tires are not seperated in anyways (you would see a big bulge on the top of the tire or small.), and that they are not worn down.

Valo666,Is the balance machine you have a "table top" balancing system. If it is, you shouldn't be using it on car tires, there should be a warning in your machines owners manual about it. You can't get them to spin enough by hand to get an accurate balance. I hope you can figure out the problem.

it might also be that they're winter tires. my car had mud/snow rated tires on it when i bought it and it was fine in town but at about 70 mph it was like driving an unbalanced washing machine. since i got my new rims and tires the car has been smooth as silk. mine were all balanced and everything, they just had a very aggressive tread

check the rating of your tires, if they are ony rated for around 70-80mph being that they are winter tires, your rim is probly spinning in side your tire and that causes crazy vibrations, happens all the time to my friends eclipse, when he hits 80 the car begins to shake. thats y most racing tires are rated for 150 plus
