Hey, I am trying to figure out a problem I have w/ the 3rd ECU plug. When you did your swap, I am sure you were missing that 3rd ecu plug too. I was wondering if you could tell me how you managed to get it to work?? Like, where did you find it or was there some other way to make it work?? Thank you in advance.

You have to make sure you get the third ECU plug, that's one thing I ALWAYS check because it's a major pain to find one. Basically the only way is to find one, often you can only get them by buying an entire ecu off ebay because they often come with the plugs and some wire.

I supposed it's possible to find some little pins you could solder on and make it work that way.

If it is from a mr-2 that plug is on another side of the harness...

The clip is a 2nd generation 1993 3sgte from a JDM ST185 all-trac celica.

I had a full harness, if you dont buy a clip you most definately need to at least get a full harness.

Hmmm, I'll go and check to see, I am not even 100% sure that I am missing a 3rd ecu plug, I haven't been home to look at my engine yet. I just know I need it, so I am finding out just in case.

yet another reason why i tell people to get a clip . often people think its cheaper to buy just a motor, but they almost always spend a fortune trying to locate missing parts. not to mention the headache

the problem with the 3rd ecu plug is that is acutally part of the interror harness of the car. so when you buy a motor, they will just give you the engine bay harness (and most of the time, its cut to death too ).

here is a pic of the 3rd ecu plug along wit a few other interror plugs from my clip

Dang, thanx man.....really appreciate that. I know, I stress to everyone the importance of having a clip too. I wish I could turn back time, but can't. Anyways, I got my motor for $750 from Jarco, so I can't complain. Well, I'll try to locate this plug, if you hear of anything, lemme know Lagos. Thanx again dude.

dude.. just go find any auto toyota with a 5sfe (and possibly 3sge). i did my swap into a 5th gen celica, but the plug is exactly the same. i got the plug out of like a 93 camry or something at the local junkyard. i believe its any 5sfe toyota with ECT.

edit: oh yeah, front clips are easier.. but it all depends on what ya have going for you. i picked up my engine from local importer, and the only reason i bought it, was because i saw the cut wiring harness with all the sensors lying on the floor. all i had to purchase was uncut harness (got for 100$), ecu (40$), and MAF (45$). engine was 750$ (with the sensors/cut harness)..

just make sure you know what parts are needed for the swap before you try and piece it together..

Actually, depending on how many pins that plug is... you can pull it from almost any Japanese engine harness from the early to mid 90's. I used a couple of 92 Honda Accord 16 pin and 26 pin plugs in Toyota ECUs before. Much of the plugs all come from the same maker. Just be sure you get the wiring correct.

Also, it's not completely neccesary to buy a whole front clip. It's safer... but if you know what you're doing, not neccesary to spend the extra $$$. It's just that 3SGTE engine harnesses are somewhat harder to come by and are more expensive. The way I see it, if I can find Blacktop/Silvertop 20V engine harnesses without too much strain, a 3SGTE wouldn't be too terrible.
