Hey, I'm going to get this steering wheel:
user posted image
It's off a 7th Gen Celi. My question is if I can fix the faded part of the steering wheel. The guy told me some of the dye came off the bottom and a little from the top. Do I re-dye the steering wheel? How would I go about doing this? And would it look brand new, like factory? Thanks.

You sure its a 7th gen wheel. Cuz it looks like a 98+ 6th gen wheel.

i doubt you can make it ever look factory fresh .... but they do sell leather steering wheel covers that you could put over it. personally, i would just keep the stock wheel on your car. airbags are a good thing to have

Maybe he does not have a airbag. My 94 doesn't have on. Gonna get a clean 7th gen wheel in it in a few weeks. For free smile.gif

yeah, the wheel is off a 2001 Celi. It just doesn't have the airbag and cover on it. My current 94 wheel(4-spoke) has an airbag. i just wanted a newer one. i was planning on getting the airbag soon for this wheel. i guess ill just wait till i can find one in close to perfect condition.

keep in mind that replacement airbags cost a lot... so even if u get this wheel for cheap, it might end up costing a lot more in the long run . also, i dont think the harness plugs from a 7th gen airbag plug into our cars

yea, ure right lagos. the airbag for the 7GC on eBay goes for 200-500. so i guess i'll try my luck on car-part.com checkin junkies and trying to run out with it... j/k, of course......... and as far as the harness plugging in... who needs airbags when you have an eject button. j/k, but really, i feel the airbag isn't a big deal to me. i dont know why. i drive fast for the most part, but carefully and i always look ahead and imagine all possibilities. so if i ever crash, i think it'll be someone elses fault. but w.e. i guess its important, but not a big priority for me. im not saying im mr.proracecardriver either. lol.

Why would you bascally want to pay to not have an airbag? Doesn't make much sense?

Whenever some punk kid 'driving fast' hit me, I'm 100% positive he was glad he had his airbag... :-/

i thought 7gcs had color stiching on the wheel?
maybe's it's the scions

you should loook into Scion steering wheels w/o the center cap or something, they have optional colors n such

er... sorry for reviving this thread.. but i just wanted to clear something up...

if i get a 98/99 steering wheel, i will need to find a 98/99 driver side airbag. then these 2 will fit + plug in perfectly and with oem fitment. am i correct in saying that?

also, say i get a 7gc steering wheel... even though the harness isn't exact... can't i pop out all the pins and connect each wire to the correct place? or am i missing something here?

We have revived this point over and over on these forums. A guy at a junkyard told me he has built up 14 celicas and he switches to the newer steering wheels meaning 98-99 from a celica. They plug in. Do they work????? i don't know. We know for a fact that the 7th gen is different due to extra wires. Those wires might have something to do with the side airbags. Any junkyard online can get you a 98-99 wheel for about 100 bucks or less. Its the airbag thats expensive and usually sold in pairs(diver/passenger). My advice is to stick with the 98-99 wheel and find a airbag for it.

The dye came off. Yeah, that's what the eBay seller said... I'm just clearing that up because I know you weren't talking about me. I didn't understand the last 2 posts... What do you mean, you're alive? I hope so.

Dye is easy to fix. Any large department store that sells shoes will have shoe dye. Use that, it works wonders.
