I know this has been asked 100 times but I have a short ram on my GT right now and I recently found the How to for a CAI, I was wondering if there was a big enough difference to spend the 40 or whatever for the piping and the time spent installing? Whats the average power gain on a short ram vs a CAI? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

with a short ram...it is STILL in the engine bay sucking in HOT air....thus you might LOSE some horse power...

CAI will suck in COLD AIR since it is OUTSIDE the car = more hp

also remember that ur stock air box sucks in cold air.

its been shown by dyno that short ram gains about as much hp as a hiflow air box filter does.

Id go with CAI

i don't really trust the filter being there... wouldn't the tires be uncomfortably close to the filter?

Well, what about pipes from the CAI? when you drive the car, they become hot too. Doesn't the air get heated up traveling trough it?

one question, I have fitted a shortram before but I did not like the sound in the morning(toilet sucking in water).

How would a CAI sound?

if your really crazy about heat. You can buy a special thermal insulation and wrap the pipe. Buts its not worth your time or money.

i've read in a few places that the tubing helps keep heat out... but it will still get hot... but it should be better than the stock air box and a short ram. Its a $35 dollar mod that sounds and looks nice. :-D

how about keeping the ram and cutting vents on each side of the hood right in front of the filter? like 6" or a foot behind the highbeam.

that sounds like more work, a odd looking hood, possible repaint, and dont forget that ud have to scoop the air in. as hood "vents" vent hot air rather then suck in hot air unless made to do so for another vent in the back to become more efficent.

I recently dropped in a k&n filter on my st, it came with tubing so you could route some outside air directly to the filter element, would this help to eliminate the problem of heat? as the tube runs from the very front of the car by the air dam to the actual filter(a few inches away)

my question is, if you have longer piping, wouldn't that make the response of the intake slower -> causing no low-end torque?

i just eliminated the big box that goes under...the sucks in more air and is filtered out, no more worries of the cai coming loose...its still cold air, not too long and not too short..its purrrrrrfect. i could put a pipe on the end and a filter but now it looks stock and will pass smog inspections too!
