BAH HELP!, with my new computer Options

I just ordered a gateway 200ARC laptop from an internet company w/o a operating system. Ive tryed several times to install windows XP pro, Windows XP home, and windows 2000 pro. When I try to install XP i get a blue error screen telling me that its dumping the physcical memory yadda yadda yadda. When i install 2000 pro it just errors and tells me i have to restart. Any sugestions, or is this a hardware problem that i should ship it back to the company. Thanks all!

edit: its a centrino 1.4ghz display model that aparently worked before it shipped, it was then formatted and sent to me. also i tried using different memory. no luck

1. Centrino is great for monility, just isn't a power house.

2. I'm on a gateway and they're just as good as the other pc's I sell.

Sounds like an IQR or NMI error. . what os did the PC come with ?

streetzking <- full of it centrinos are a great mobile chip, and gateways are great for the money. it was of the highest benchmarked laptop in the price range

you might have to get the disks that were supposed to come with the laptop. i used to work for gateway before they closed all their retail stores. laptops usually need reboot disks that come with the laptop because there are system specific drivers that windows doesnt come with. so if you can get ahold of gateway (1-800-gateway usually works best) give them the serial number off of the bottom of the lap top you should be able to get a set of system disks for cheap or free depending on how nice the tech support person is. if you call between 8 and 6 pacific time you usually get some one that speaks english too. so give em a call and hope this solves your problemo.

Here's something you can do. When it goes out on blue screen again, write down the error message. It will be on hex. Then go to your search engines, just search why it's giving you that error message. Without that message, there's not much that anyone will be able to help you with, except give you blind solutions, or tell you to get another computer. Good luck.

how far in the install can you get? sounds like it could be a hard drive malfunction to me...

You could try booting from a copy of knoppix, it will probably be able to tell you a little bit better if you are having a hardware issue. Also try deleting all of the partitions on the drive and running fdisk /mbr, I've seen windows installs not work becuase the boot table was not microsoft compliant.

i only have fdisk on floppy, and my burner isent working on this computer. At first i would get almost all the way through but now i cant even resume, and it wont let me delete and format the partition i allready created. This is such a pain. Also i cant even get far enough for the blue error screen to come up anymore. it just fails to start installing... AHHHHHH

90% of the time that error is a error in the ram stick or the memory on the video card. Centrinos are great, gateways are not so hot but not bad for the price. I suspect its your ram since its happening durring an install and basicaly no video memory is being used.

Uhmm thats BS I have installed xp pro on 8 laptops all of them had wireless cards, at least 4 usb ports, dvd burners the works.

Are you doing a full format or just the quick format?

When your installing delete the partitions, then rebuild them, and do a full format then follow the instructions. If that doesn't work you have a problem either with the xp cd or your hardware.

lol, install xp with the most minimal, that cancels each other out.

anywho, delete the boot sectors and the partition, then create a new partition and install the OS on there, and make sure you do a full reformat with the NTSC32. That should fix your problem.

use kill disk first, its the best thing to do when you wash a hard drive, you can get a free version on the net pretty easy, but do that before you reformat your hd, (kill disk compleatly washed the disk of any data so that its brand new and ready start over) then use a startup disk from windows 98 to format the drive with ntfs, then swap it out and install xp.

but yeah the first problem you have is that its a gateway, the proc is not that bad, but its the gateway motherboard thats probibly giving you problems, make sure that the ram your using is compatible with it, store bought pc's are very bad for that. exspecialy the cheap onces.

side note: make sure your night trying to install the 64bit edition of xp because that will cause trubble , if so, mail me the disk and I'll take care of it for you.

Gateway motherboards may suck... but I doubt thats your problem. no matter how much they suck they still install an operating system.

Check your BIOS and return Everything to Normal. Could it be that you don't have a hard drive and have some bad RAM/ Missing RAM?

im doing full formats, and somtimes it errors during that too, i ended up rma'ing it and sending it back, i suspect its the hard drive. the last time i tried it it was having trouble copying files over from the cd. so i think its the hdd. thanks for all the help though, ill let you guys know what it was when i hear back from the company.
