I hate my hometown with a passion...tonight was so damn stupid.

I came into town today because I had to help my dad install some new struts on my bro's car. Tonight, I was driving around(just myself in my car) with my friends(3 friends in a Tahoe) and we decided to go to Jack in the Box to get some food. We wanted to go inside so we parked in the second row of parking since there were tons of cars filling up the first row(including the two handicapped spots...occupied by cars full of teenagers.) Right when we got out of the cars, a cop rolled in and got on his PA saying "You in the yellow car and you in the black suburban, you guys need to leave now! You're in Albertsons property and are trespassing unless you're shopping in Albertons." Albertons was just barely still open, and in the parking lot which probably holds 100 cars(and had about 5 cars in it, close to the Albertons entrance, and another 10 or so, lined up in one row close-ish to Jack in the Box), we were in the very back of it next to Jack in the Box.

We said that there was no parking, and the cop told us to take that up with the Jack in the Box management. So my three friends went to the drive-through. I went for a drive around the block and then decided I'd just park in the same spot and grab something to drink from Albertsons.

So I went in, got a Sobe, kept my reciept(knowing I might need it in court later,) and walked out. When I walked out I stopped by my friend's Tahoe to ask where we were going now, and then the cops drove over and yelled at me, asking me what my problem was.

I held my Sobe up and said that I just bought it from Albertsons, and that I saved the reciept knowing I'd probably get trouble from the YPD. I asked them if he wanted to see it, then he screamed "THAT'S IT!", jumped out of his car, got right up in my face, and starting yelling at me telling me I was getting a trespassing ticket.

I told him I had bought something from Albertsons and was on the way back to my car, and that I was being unfairly targeted, seeing as how I was the only one out of the 11 or so cars parked in Albertsons parking near Jack in the Box that actually bought something from Albertons, and everyone else was just hanging out near Jack in the Box.

After some screaming, arguing, and harassment, he told me to just leave. So I asked for his name and badge number. Then he really got in my face and demanded my ID so that he could write me a ticket. I gave it to him and he made me follow him so that he could talk to me without the gathering crowd around.

We argued back and forth for about half an hour and I told him that he should write me the ticket...it won't hold up in court but it'll look good for my harassment complaint. Finally he told me to just get the hell out before he arrested me for disorderly conduct.

So I left, so damn pissed at the harassment I'd endured. I was the ONLY one in the Albertsons parking lot that was harassed even though I ACTUALLY bought something from the store...the other 10 or so cars parked in the lot hanging out at Jack in the Box were left alone completely! I was so shaken up that I could hardly drive.

I talked to my parents when I got home and they said that we could file a complaint but it'd probably just lead to more of the same...the newspaper always writes about how wrong our police department is...it never changes...my dad and I have seen first-hand how corrupt some city officials are...a head lieutenant of the police force hates my guts with a passion. And my parents and I can't afford a laywer. I try to avoid Yakima as much as possible now that I'm moved out of the city, but I can't avoid it forever, nor should I have to.

I just hate this place. And I feel so helpless.

Exactly what I was thinking. There is no reason you can't do it and, chances are, if you dont do it when you are young, you never will.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Coomer that is absolutely absurd. I’m sorry. I can’t believe the cops would treat you like that. I’d say file a complaint and everything but it seems like there is a problem with the police in your town and you probably wouldn’t get any where. The fact that he didn’t give you a ticket just shows that he know what he did was wrong.
I’d write a letter to the police department anyway, or go to a higher source then that just to file a complaint in case you encounter another problem with the police in Yakima again, that way if something does end up going to court you can have proof that you were previously discriminated against by the Yakima Police Department.

I like this idea.... sounds fun.... lol but for real... don't just take it.... do something.... at worst you piss him off get him in trouble and then he watches you closer..... but you don't live there ne more.. and each time your in town.... Video tape when you're being followed or w/e.... my friend did this...a certain cop followed him around all the time in his mustang.. his vedo'd one week... the cop kept doing it... so he showed the officer the vid after he made a copy and said if he didn't do his damn job then he would send the tape in for harassment... hasn't had a problem since

Might want to consider writing your congressman, might take a few letters but maybe they can do something.

Wow. When I worked for a PD our shenanigans were cheeky and fun. YPD's sound cruel and tragic... which makes them not really shenanigans at all.

Props for calmly and firmly standing up to him.

Already have. Like I said though, I can't just stay out of Yakima forever and never see my parents again...this weekend I had to come down to install some struts in my bro's car to save my parents some money.

That's a good idea...I think I'll write a letter tonight.

QUOTE(97lestyousay @ Aug 21, 2005 - 11:52 AM)
I get a Yakima tv station here in tri town. They said there was a blues and brews
fest in Yak and they had xtra police coverage last night looking for duiis. I don't know if that was any of the reason.  They sound like real a-holes. I've lived in a town where I was harrassed, once they got ur # they just keep coming.  I sold the car they knew and stayed away and they forgot about me.  It wasn't a celi though.
I know you can't beat the man, but you can avoid him.  Good luck, I hope you get it worked out.

Looking for DUIs? Ha! There were four YPD police cars just sitting in the Jack in the Box parking lot, with one harassing me and the other three watching the crowd and watching the officer harass me.

C'mon now, we all know that using four cop cars to harass a young sober kid excercising his legal rights is more important than busting people for DUIs. rolleyes.gif

Oh and have your father sign the letter also, or put his name on it and write it in 3rd person. You know how adults are, they dont take anybody whose our age seriously.

Thats sh*t man. I hate gettin hasseled by the cops. Today i was drivin(first full day back with the car), i was drivin down battelford road(goes 80km/h down to 60, down to 50, up to 60, down to 50 again, up to 70). So im crusing along duin maybe 62 in the sixty zone, and all of a sudden this cop pulls out of a parking lot and flys up on me with his lights going. So i put my signal on, slow the car down and pull off to the side. He comes up and asks for my lisence, insurance and registration. So i give it to him. he sees the cars under my dad's name. So he questions me about it(thinks i stole it). So i tell him its a project car for me n him..he looks at me funny and then give me all my stuff back. He says "i pulled u over because ur exhaust is to loud and also u were speeding back there." i just looked at him with a really stearn look and asked him "Do you have any proof of either? Can i see your radar gun? do you have a decimal reader??" He looks at me with a really pissed off look. He said "No i dont have the radar reading because it cleared." I told him, "well, without proof u cant gimme a ticket, if you do, im gonna take it straight to court. What about my exhaust?" He looked puzzeled. In onatario u have to have an actuall decimal reader. To get a proper reading it needs to be 3 feet away, held at a 45 degree angle and the car has to be held at 3000RPM. The cop looks down and says, "I dont have a decimal reader with me, but i know it was above limits, im gonna have to write you up" So i told him again, without proof its not gonna hold up, also its gonna b void because by law u need a reader, not discretion." So he looks at me and gives me a pissed off forced sarcastic smile. He hands me back the ownership and insurance and looks down and says "have a good day sir" and walks back and drives off. Right as he drives off and turns off his lights, some guy in a civic comes smokin down the road(duin easily 100km/h and the cop throws the lights back on.)...cops every where harrass ppl with nice cars/younge guys with sports cars. My friends got a stock(performance wise) cav z24. Hez got a blitz front, bomex sides and drift rear, euro tails, 18" motegi MR7s in gunmetal, airbag suspention, red underglows. He gets pulled over so often and cops check under the hood 95% of the time. I wonder if cops relize that like 80% of the time the cars that look stock are the ones that are more modded under the hood.

I would just keep going to court, then sue the state and the police HQ for wasting my time. I would be that ass and do just what you did, and piss him off, but do nothing illegal.. d

It seems a lot that its the peopel that are honest and hard working are the ones that get screwed, sure seems that way for me anyways..

Good luck.. You could always just get him to arrest you or do somthing so he gets fierd.

man, i have it sooooooo lucky here

since the 4th grade i have been best friends with a Sheriff Luetenent(SP)'s son

if a sheriff pulls me over and my friend is in the car, NOTHING will happen(provided i wasnt being stupid)

just the other night we were in my friend's harely truck, which has no licence plates(he never put them on, just kept the window sticker) and we got pulled over because they thought it was a stolen car.

they started checking the vin's, registration, and then asked for all our ID's. my friend said

"Here, im LT. Weiss's son"

the sheriffs then turned to my friend who was driving and said, "why didnt you say so, could have saved us all some time, you are in good company kid"

and they left us alone.
