Hey everyone...I get my license in less than 2 months and I'm car searching at the moment. I have been looking at Celicas for the past two months or so, and I think they are a pretty good canidate for a first car considering what I'm looking for. Anyway, my question to you all is which Celica do you all think is best? The 6th gen. Celica GT has 135 HP and 145 lb-ft of torque, and the current Celica GT has 140 HP and 125 lb-ft of torque and the GT-S has 180 HP and 130 lb-ft of torque. I know the GT-S has the obvious torque advantage, but of those three which do you think is going to be the best to live with, most fun to drive, ect? All three are good handling, fun to drive cars which is what I am looking for, and the price is about the same give or take $6K.

The price is the same give or take $6grand? Thats alot of money - are you even buying this urself? If your trying to decide whether or not to get 6 or 7th gen, thats a matter of looks and engine. Its definately easier to do mods to the 7th, they're everywhere, as getting as getting civic or integra parts - so have fun being put with them. 6th gen has lesser parts, but its rarer and u get bonus points for originality. The fun to drive part, well thats probably the same. They're both Celica's so im thinking they're both quite fun to drive. Its kinda up to you - the 7th are going to be more expensive, and since ur a novice driver, u might wanna consider something less expensive to drive, fix and hold insurance for.

well do you want something esay to hook up that a lot more people have? then go for the 7th gen GT S
If you want somthing that not a lot of people have and take some time and thinking to make peoeple go WOW the the 6th gen.

The 7G Celica GT-S the 2ZZ-GE Engine. It is rated at 180HP at the flywheel. The 2ZZ-GE and the 1ZZ-FE found in the GT and GT-S Celica models are the latest 4-cylinder engines offered by Toyota. They are all-aluminum 1800CC (1.8 litre) 16-valve engines with VCT.

History:

The 1ZZ-FE was introduced in late 1988
The 2ZZ-GE was introduced in 2000 (on the Celica GT-S)

The 1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE has different bore and stroke. The 1ZZ-FE (Celica GT) has more response due to the higher low end torque.
The 2ZZ-GE was designed with a "G" or "sports" head. It is interesting to note that the extra 50 H.P. will not come into play untill AFTER 6000RPMs. So if you are looking into an automatic model...you must be shifting the "sport shifters" to get the extra 50HP above 6000RPM or your car will accelerate jsut the same (or a bit slower) than Celica GT. Also the Celica GT-S has a High Compression ratio..if you thinking of custom turbo..etc....well you could figure it out lol im lazy...

The Celica GT has the 1ZZ-FE which is smooth to drive with enough low end power to get you going. The Celica GT-S takes more effort but having more power.

The 6G Celica GT has the 5S-FE engine with a manual or automatic there is enough torque to get you off the line but feels "slower" at higher end. If you DO NOT live in California you could swap in a more powerful 3S-GTE engine later on (if you want to deal with this/have enough money/parents will let you shell out that much/ etc etc) BUT if you live in California it is only street legal to swap in the 3S-GTE in the 94-96 Celica's.

ALL are good cars. I own a 6G Celica GT. My aunt has a 7G GT and my cousin has a 7G GT-S. they are all good cars. IMHO stock I really liked the Celica GT and GT-S interior amenities. I did not like the back seat area (like other cars).

BUT there are people who just have to have the best. Their thinking is "oohhh I could get this car and just do this later" when the reality is that you may not have enough money or be a hassle. If you want a "low cost" performance car then go for the Celica GT. Its capable of the remarkable 3S-GTE and etc. If you care nothing for performance or just want to look good to girls or appeal to guys or iono someting then the Celica GT is the one for you. If you want a high rpm scremer that you like the way it is then get the Celica GT-S. Its all based on what you want. If you want the most power overtime...6G Celica GT with 3S-GTE. But thats just my opinion...i'm tired...i'm at school...and I might have some (or alot) of errors..blah blah blah im stupid...oh yea you know why Chikens look up all the time? they are asking god "when will I urinate" have you ever seen a chiken pee? well have you?!?!"

buy a 6th gen gt 5spd and with that extra 6k that you dont really car about you can swap in a 3sgte and have a ton of power, it will be faster than any 7th gen that is still NA.

I'm not into major mods...maybe upgrading tires and wheels, CAI, minor exterior stuff and maybe a Supercharger, so nothing as expansive as an engine swap. I am leaning towards the GT with the new TRD S/C which promises HP and torque gains of nearly 50%. An engine with that sort of power is better to me than one that u have to revv into 6K to get anything done. It sounds picky...but the fact that the GT has rear drums is sort of a turn off...I'm picky about 4 wheel discs which I know the GT-S and 6th gen GT have.

Since the GT-S is already such a high strung engine, what would happen if you added a turbo or S/C? Would it like blow up?

if you want a gt-s get a 7th gen or go to canada to get a 6th gen gt-s. they are not avail. in the u.s.

and to answer your question

it depends on how much boost that you run...check to see if they make s/c's or turbo kits for the car. i personally have no idea. if you were referring to 6th gen then no you can boost it. but it would be about the same cost to get a 3s-gte swapped in.

no s/c's or turbo kits for the 7th gens as of yet, there is a turbo kit for the 6th gen GT that works and it will make it faster than a 7th gen gts

the gts is NOT ideal for s/c or turbo, very high compression, the GT is better since it has a lower CR.

go for a 6th gen GT and with all the money you save you can get wheels and do some suspension work and then even a turbo kit from burien or the ripp modified s/c kit that just cam out

Actually there is a Supercharger kit that is avalible through BLITZ (7G). XS-Engineering had a turbo kit that worked somewhat with the Celicas Explosive 11:1 compression ratio but then they discontinued it. Sport Compact Car fabricated a turbo system that worked with the 2ZZ-GE engine in their Project Toyota Matrix XR-S.

Since he doesn't seem to be too interested in engine swaps, or massive mods, I would say don't get a 6th gen. He wants "cheap" power, go with the 7th gen gts. It's got the power (albeit in the higher rpm's) and has tons of cheap, easy to do mods. Personally, I would like to see more 6th gens, but that doesn't sound like what you're looking for. IMO it was silly of toyota to put those engines in the 7th gens. They have almost no upgradability, they can't really go anywhere in terms of power. I mean, in 2000 they produce an engine with incredibly high CR that only gets that Lift over 6000 rpms where as in 94, they put out the 3SGE that has 3 less hp but like almost 20 more ft lbs and has all its power, all the time. Silly, IMO
