As some of you know, I am upgrading to the GT4 front facia because of my crash. I have purchased most of the required parts, some of which will be delivered Sunday.
I did not purchase the GT4 fogs because the price is rediculous. I wanted to know if anyone has recommendations on some really nice 4" round fog lights. I want clear. Unfortunately, a stray stone has shattered one of the OE lenses on my front lights. Tried Toyota for a replacement but decided againts getting a mortgage bo buy one.
Just been to the local autofactors and came away with a pair of these... 100mm diameter as per OE ones. Not sure hwo they'll fit, but can't see that being too difficult. NZ$159 for the pair is a shed load cheaper than Mr T. Well, after a lot of researching and looking, I have some things to report including what I bought.
The correct size of the round GT4 fogs is 100mm diameter which is about 3 15/16" across. This is not a common size although it is used in the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe. The problem is that the OEM versions of those lights are almost as expensive as the GT4. The options at Walmart, Autozone, and other auto parts stores I went to were very bad. The lights either looked really, really cheap, were blue or yellow tinted, were not the correct size, had very funky halo lights, or had deep or thick rims around the outside. None of those options were acceptable. I certainly did not want to buy something that wasn't going to look like it fit in the stock fog recepticals. Bosch makes a set called the compact 100 but I couldn't find it anywhere in the United States. I also could not locate a picture of it so I cannot comment on the looks. Very good reviews, however. PIAA makes some very nice 100mm fogs that would fit. The model of the kit is 510 and they run about $200 for a kit with two bulbs and harnesses and covers. Quite frankly, that was more than I wanted to spend. Also, the inside of the glass is tinted a yellow (which helps in the fog) but I really wanted a clear lens and a clear bulb. Hella does not make any 100mm aftermarket fog lights. They do, however, distribute some 100mm fog lights for another company that were standard issue on the upper end models of the Mercury Topaz and Ford Tempo from 1992 and 1993. These units are plastic (less need to worry about glass breaking / cracking) and look very decent. They are OEM quality which generally means better than autozone cheapies but not as good as PIAA or Hella. The bulbs are standard size and clear. Overall, a nice looking option if you want something that looks decent but are not ultra concerned about fog light performance. That was where I am. I just picked up a set for $40 bucks shipped from the junk yard. I will post up pics when I get them installed in a couple weeks. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

My junk yard fog lights came in the mail today. Here is a picture of the 92 Ford Tempo fog in the GT4 bezel. It fits good and I like the looks. I think its a good substitute for $40.

I have fitted clear fog lights to my uk model ST205. These were 'angel eye' fogs too, and i have wired the halo upto the side light. The kit comes with a wiring harness so that you can have buttons in your car, however i chose to wire 'em in direct to the normal circuits so they come on with the relevant Toyota switches.
Halfords in the UK sell them for £ 79.99, however I purchased them from a local dealer for £ 55.00 If anyone is interested, I'll take a photo (night time looks best!), as well as a day shot and post them to my website for you all to see. They outperform the standard st205 fogs, and look a whole lot sexier too, as well as being 'E' approved. Let me know if there's interest. I understand that I am in the UK, and lots of you are in the USA, so if you would like to group together and buy a few sets, then I could get them shipped over for you (you just pay me whatever I can buy them for plus cost of shipping - and I'm sure I could get a group buy discount!). These are made by Ring (a company based in Leeds in the UK). They have a website www.ring.ltd.uk , but they dont have pictures on there. I guess you could email them and ask for a distributor in the USA! Below is a link to the halfords website, where you get an idea of the boxed product. They even have a nifty little 'push this button' on the box, where the angel eyes light up so you can see their effect on the shelf! http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_detail...4&type=0&cat=13 All I had to do to get mine fitted inside the black plastic GT4 fog lamp holder was to cut the backs off the holders as the new fogs are deeper, and wire them accordingly (very easy). Again, let me know if you want pics of my fogs on the car, and I can take pics of them off the car (so you can see what I had to cut etc). Nice simple job though. Good luck, Jon Cooper :-) QUOTE(jgreening @ Jul 1, 2005 - 11:11 PM) As some of you know, I am upgrading to the GT4 front facia because of my crash. I notice that the webpage says they are driving lamps and not fog lamps. Do they have fogs available?
