i bought an imac G5 for college in july and lately ive been reading that the cpu tends to overheat and cause nearby capacitors to bulge. apple supposedly fixed this problem in the rev B imacs. i installed temp monitoring software on my computer and have found that it regularly gets up to 170 degrees when im playing halo, watching hd movies, etc. i havnt had failures of any sort yet so im probably worrying for nothing. on the other hand, when you spend this kind of money on a computer youd expect it to work under all conditions, and i dont like how apple seems to have designed this computer more for design than function. anybody else here having problems with there imac overheating?

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

design over function has been the apple way of life for years.

i have seen quite a few normal tower g5s have heating issues at work

No worse then stuff like hp and emachine... cheap over design and function. As far as I know the G5's havnt had any major issues I wouldnt sweat it too hard we where not having a big issue with them comming into work with heat problems. Get a extended warrenty if your extremly worried.

I dont understand why people buy mac computers, I guess I just never will, I mean there not bad but there just so limited. I like a big aftermarket of things to pick from. or atleast a way to upgrade without replacement when it gets old.

some of us aren't all about performance, but are also concerned with aesthetics. hence why I own a celica. not to say my 1.5 ghz g4 is a dog but its not the fastest laptop out there. but put my powerbook against any pc and you tell me which one is better designed. same goes for the celi and your average sport compact

Word, Ive been in pc repair for 4 years but I love the mac's. Im happy as a clam with my 1.5ghz powerbook. And im not sure on the whole not as fast... this gives my friends 3.0 ghz p4's a run for their money but you really cant compaire since its osx vs windows. Also, these things just work. A pc I wana sync my phone with bluetooth its a pain in the ass. On osx I just pressed a few buttons *and I dint even know how to do it had only had a mac for 4 days* and I was syncing right up to my calendar.
