has anyone done this or tried importing a car with a swapped engine that isn't stock?
i'm wondering because i'd like to import a swapped car (celi w/ 3sgte)... i know we have 2nd gen 3sgte's in canada in other cars (mr2/5gc)... but i have some worries... i'm just worried it might not even be allowed into the country or pass the federal inspections i've went to riv.ca to read up on importing cars... but it doesn't really say in detail... will either customs or the federal inspection places check to make sure the engine matches the vin or wutever? -------------------- |

as long as the numbers in the bay match, that's probably all they'd check for. I doubt most places would know the difference.
Unless there are emissions etc edit. the numbers in the bay label to the hood label to the door and windshield label. I doubt they'd check for 3sgte/5sfe/7afe etc.. Try calling Canadian Border Services Agency and asking....car importation is something they have to deal with fairly often, I expect.

It's a huge hassle from what I understand. Importing a car alone is quite the hassle, and when the engine isn't stock it just makes it even harder. I had several very interested buyers for my car from Canda...then they realized how much work it'd be to import it and gave up.

If Canada is anything like the US then have the engine removed, bring the car and motor over seperatly then put them back together when they make it there, as long as a car doesn't have a motor then customs can't treat it like a car so you miss the inspections and testing that go with it.

i'm getting mixed opinions about this... people are telling me they have brought in mr2s and rx-7s with swapped engines w/o a problem... i've thought about removing the engine before bringing the car over... seems like the easiest way to avoid any hassle... they will probably treat it like a car still.. just that i can say it had a blown motor or something... HOWEVER i will end up paying tax for both the car and engine as well as the extra cost of removing engine and the shipping cost for 2 items... which in the end... isn't worth it anymore This post has been edited by elvasoshexai: Aug 31, 2005 - 11:11 AM -------------------- |

You're right about the tax, and when bringing one to the US if it's wrecked or doesn't have an engine then it doesn't get considered a motor vehicle, I posted a bunch of importing laws a while back that explain it, but it won't help much in your case since they're for the US.

they dont really care man. My friend bough 2 S13's from florida, one was bone stock, and the other had a SR20 swapped in it. He didnt pay anything extra, just took about a week longer than the stock one. I still donno how u cant find one up here. There are soooooo many up here. I say just buy one with high km and swap it in ur self. its probably gonna b cheaper than buyin one with a swap. I saw a GTS on autotrader for $2400 CND with 205xxxkm on it. Spend the $2400 or less if u bargin, on the car, then go out and buy a 3S and swap it in for cheaper.
