I'll try writing a bit since Peter is busy
We had a drag race called "Toyota vs Nissan" The races ended with a tie score of 9:9 since the last 2 toyota wins weren't taken into account 'cause those cars raced already. The races were excelent. From the nissan side there were: Skylines: new 350GT-8 25GGT turbo 25GGT several other 34 and 33 skylines Sylvias s14 s15 350-z pulsar (250 bhp) From toyota side: one st185 (235 whp caldina engine swap and some mods) two st205 (almost stock) soarer (500 bhp with an auto - didn't like this one) supra (the only thing the guy said is that it had more then 300 whp - My guess is a lot more 'cause it absolutly killed every skyline it went against, as it did the 350z) I really liked how the supra and the st185(mk2 gt4) sounded - it seemed like a fighter jet comming The st185 did a 13.5 on the 1/4 mile It's a shame the event started at 2 a.m. on a dark road, so I couldn't film any video. But still I was happy that toyota held up nice against the nissan with their famous skylines. And the s15 in a nice bodykit was a show stopper This post has been edited by _rz_: Aug 29, 2005 - 8:05 AM |

if it said 2.5 on the back it was'nt a gtr, most likely a gts-t and a stock st205 would kill those. i don't think a stock st205 can beat a stock gtr.

Isnt the R32 a 2.5 Liter engine?? With about 210 bhp?
BTW The skyline isnt that almighty. It got its glorious fame in The Fast and The Furious and Need For Speed underground games. Its a real heavy car so it needs the power. Also in a straight line 4wd doesnt help alot because of the power loss in the 4wd transmission. Seen 2 Skylines (R34 GTR and a R33) race at a Local Tuning Show. Both about 350-400 bhp. 1/8 time was between 8.6-9.0 seconds. Real slow. -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

not to bag on the toyota people, because i love my celica, and what not, but just because the movies and games make the car out to be a god, doesnt mean they suck. r33/34's are amazing machenes, they can hang with the best cars, and minor tunes with very little money can make them beastly. and im pretty sure the r32 gtr was 2.5.

I agree. The Skyline's were already a "had to have" car before the movies came out. Everyone already knew what a Skyline was. The Skyline didn't need any hype and I heard just about as much about the Skyline before and after the movie and game. |

exactly, movies just ruin the image in a way, but the skyline was and still is one of the most sought out cars for a "import" enthusiast, because its a very well rounded car.... i guess since the supra was in fast and the furious its a POS to huh?

Look at the glory the Supra got in the first movie, even though there was a yellow Skyline as one of the supporting characters car, then 2 came out and the main cars were the Evo and Skyline so they got a lot of hype also, but it only happened after the movies if the main car was a Sylvia or GT-Four then they would have brought a lot of hype, NFSU just added fuel to the fire.

U guys probably misunderstood my point. Indeed if you look at cornering and racing (legal of course) they would kick ass. But in a straight line (drag and stock!!) the arent that fast because of the weight. Sure they would outrun my Celi bigtime but 1600 Kg plus the loss with the 4wd system....
In a race/cornering they already have momentum + boosting turbo so that is a whole different story. Should have added this part in my other post! -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

i might be wrong about this but doesnt 4wd (if driven well) provide a much cleaner and harder launch?! at least in my Talon Tsi if i launch on a RWD i usually smoke em' off the line. Alot of that has to deal with wheel spin but still i dont think i would ever say that 4wd is bad for drag. And im not talking straight drag cars im talking light modifieds like the race this thread is based on.

4wd is the easiest to launch because when the power is dvided through out 4 tires its less likely to break loose, compared to when all the power is going to 2. and the Skylines ATESSA system is one of the best if not THEE best AWD system out there today. BUT, people that can drive and know there cars, can out 60' a AWD car with a RWD/FWD car... but thats rare.

i get ohh so very irritated at people dishing on Skyline GT-R's... these cars were mythical machines way before the PS2 generation came into play... Car and Driver- December 95- "the predecessor to this car (the R33) appeared in 1989, the year Nissan cooked up the first twin turbo and intercooled 4WD Skyline for Group A an Group N track racing. Enthusiasts around the world salivated over it's technology, as did we when we tested a GT-R that had been sneaked into the US and tweaked to about "350" hp. We called it "so good, it's scary"..." beter yet, CAR magazine (uk), July 2000, versus a Euro spec Audi RS4 Avant wagon- "The Japanese, masters of self-restraint, even have a 280bhp 'volentary' power limit. A very special 280 BHP, by the looks of it, because the 280bhp Skyline is marginally heavier than the RS4, and generates more drag. But its every bit as quick as the 380bhp Audi."... "What makes the skyline really special is the way it responds. This car translates driver inputs, one on one, without adding or altering, without delay or distortion, and without making decisions before they are due. The clutch is light and sharp and progressive. The six speed gearbox is a two finger affair that combines short throws with total precision. the brembo brakes are instant on, and they never seem to wilt, not even after 5 consecutive hot laps on the ring (the Nurburing). The throttle dives deep into the footwell and is a joy to modulate, with effort and response strinking a perfect balance. the steering is supprisingly light and always alive, supplying an blueprint of the road and the car's reaction to it. At 2.5 turns from lock to lock, it is also quick enough to give you a head start against the laws of physics".... yes this car certainly sounds overratted to me... To say that skylines are overrated because they have humble chassis beginnings, even with performance oriented models like the GT-S, is such a distortion to the actual picture of reality, its laughable... sixth gen 205's start out on the food chain being 7A-FE powered... S15's only have 164 hp in standard form. Mk IV supras- 220 hp... need I continue?
-------------------- Car #3: 98 Accord LX- purchased 5/06, totaled 8/06
Car #2: 95 Celica GT- purchased 8/03, current daily driver Car #1: 01 Focus ZX3- purchased 5/01, sold 8/03 |
