so i know about as much on audio systems as i do cars...and i have an Angled sealed enclosure with two 10" woofers, 4-ohm stereo impedance, frequency response 24-1,000 Hz, power handling 100-600 watts RMS...that was copy and pasted ofcourse, and i was wonderin what would be a good amp to go with those. Ill probably be getting another amp to go with my speakers, just for the hell of it... if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

if you were gonna copy and paste, why not also copy and paste the make and model # of your subs??
it all kinda depends on your budget...what price range are you looking to stay within? peace |

cardomain.com -- look up their learning articles on subs. I'd offer advice, but since I've only studied component systems, I couldn't get too specific.

Well, yeah it will help to have a few things...what kind of subs are they with model numbers? How much are they rated at exactly? Dual or Single voice coil? Price Range? Any brand bias?
Also, the install is a big part of how it will sound as well, so either me or Abraxis (I'm sure he will) will be able to tell you how to wire it up when you tell us all of the above information so it sounds right and doesn't blow anything up lol. -------------------- 95 Toyota Celica GT

yea sorry, um it says Audiobahn ABB102Q, those or a couple Rockford Fosgate P110S4 10"s. Im just lookin to add some bass, im not too worried about price, but i dont wanna spend too much, just whatever gets the job done. Im not too concerned with brands, as i dont know much of a difference in them, i know that a friend has 3 Rockfords 15"s and they didnt sound half bad.

okay, so i'm guessing that you already have this sub/enclosure combo...i'm not really a fan of audiobahn products (nor the rf stage 1 stuff, coincidentally) but since you already have the equipment, may as well put it to use.
here is an absolutely killer deal for a GREAT amp-- a refurb directed 1500d for just over $150 that'll put out 800watts at 2-ohms, which will be your final impendence, unless i'm mistaken. i believe that your box has two 4-ohm drivers and also has two speaker termials. although it's a mono amp, the 1500d should have two sets of inputs which it bridges internally (my directed amp did, as do most large mono amps these days) so wiring should be a breeze. plus, if you ever choose to upgrade your subs you'll be able to get a little over 1200watts at 1-ohm! i'm not sure how comfortable you are buying refurb stuff but, if i were in the market for a sub amp, i'd jump all over that in a second. peace This post has been edited by Abraxis64: Sep 11, 2005 - 5:21 AM |

QUOTE(Abraxis64 @ Sep 11, 2005 - 6:16 PM) i believe that your box has two 4-ohm drivers and also has two speaker termials. although it's a mono amp, the 1500d should have two sets of inputs which it bridges internally (my directed amp did, as do most large mono amps these days) so wiring should be a breeze. I wired my two subs to my Kicker 600.1, only has one set of terminals. i just twisted the appropriate speaker wires from either sub together, and then screwed onto the amp as one giant wire., wiring the subs in parallel at the amp. another way you can do it. im assuming thats what you mean? |

JFrost9, go to either The Zeb.com or Etronics.com for some of the best deals on amp you can get. I've bought from both and they have excellent service. (Links are provided for easy searching)
As far as what amp to get, you should keep things simple for yourself since your new to audio and get a two-channel amp that delivers a 4-Ohm load to two channels, pushing about 450-500 watts RMS each channel if you plan on using such powerful subs. This would likely result in very loud bass levels as well as an expensive price tag to get good equipment that car deliver the power, so just know what you really need and want. But of course what amp you buy depends solely on the power handling (watts) and impedence (Ohms) of the speaker that you buy - So be sure that the speaker as well as the amp are compatible and provide enough outputs to power all your speakers. A more cost effective and practical setup would be to get an amp that delivers something like 2-300 watts continuous X 2 channels and then bridge a 12" subwoofer rated for that kind of power and impedence with a ported enclosure....usually providing more than enough bass, at least in my standards. However that may not be enough for the likes of others. Also, peak power ratings are just a marketing thing, so look for where it states the RMS power of the amp, this way you can continuously run a healthy ammount of juice to your subwoofer. Good luck and feel free to ask or PM if you have any more questions. -Corey This post has been edited by Silver94CelicaOwner: Sep 15, 2005 - 12:37 AM -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

i tend to differ from silver in my opinion, which is why i recommended the directed--to me, as far as the subwoofer application goes, it is almost always the best idea to go with a monoblock amplifier (primarily for cost reasons). people differ on this, mostly because they feel class a/b amplification is "better" than class d power...to me, for subbass, it doesn't matter...

i appreciate the links bro, but that Zeb site has gotta be one of the most expensive sites ive seen, they had a 15" sub on there for 400 dollars... which is like 180 on another site...ive already ordered the directed audio mono amp... and im almost certain im going to get a KICKER S15L5 15" sub. Its got:
Dual 2-ohm voice coils Frequency response 18-100 Hz Power range 750 watts RMS (375W watts per coil) Peak power handling 1,500 watts -------------------- I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club! |

ooh, that's a nice sub--it's sure to get good and loud for you. if you wire it down to 1-ohm (as you'll learn how to do from the instructions that kicker is likely to send along with the sub, or from various audio websites' tutorial pages), you'll be drawing over a kilowatt of power from the directed amp--that l5 is rated for 750 (although i'm certain it can take more than that)....just make sure you don't crank your gains. if you want to be safe, set them a little lower than you would otherwise. no sense frying your nice new sub with over 350 more watts than it is rated to handle
