I own a 95 celica and I have been having a few problems with the stock alarm remotes for my baby.

I have 2 alarm remotes, however one has stopped working (that is it lights up when I press the button, but it does not trigger the alarm) and the other works, but thanks to old age it is extremely difficult to operate.

I recently went to my local Toyota dealer to get a replacement and they said it would cost me $125 for the remote and $65 for the calibration. Now as far as I know, calibrating the alarm requires removing the seat to get to the brain unit and hitting a reset switch.... if this is the case then I won't be paying $65 to do this as I can easily do this myself.

My questions are:
-Is calibrating the alarm really that straight forward? (is there any pics or documentation for this). If I buy the remote from toyota will I have any problems doing this?
-If I reset the alarm for my existing non working remote is there a possibility that the remote unit will begin working again (I guess this depends on what is wrong with it)?
-If I do reset the alarm for a new (or possibly the existing) remote will my existing flaky remote still work?
-It is my understanding that each remote has a different code so if I were to get a remote from another celica and reset the alarm I should be able to use that one with no problems. If this is the case, how many remotes can you have calibrated to the single alarm.

I would greatly appreciate any help regarding this situation.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I was hoping you could answer mine.
Yea I'm having trouble with my alarm system too.
It's too sensitive.
Are you sure the alarm module is under the driver's seat?

I haven't checked so I can't say I am 100% sure. But this is the indication I got from the Toyota dealer (plus through my own research). If it isn't raining when I get home from work I'll rip apart my car and check (I'll take some pics if I find anything too)!

The alarm sits right under your steering wheel dash.
It's mounted on this plastic pipe thingy for the heater.
I think...at least thats where mine was. Its not too hard, if your alarm is stock and its failing just buy another one that is 10X better and less prone to car theives, or you can just take out the thing and resplice all the stock wires back together. Theres only like two major wires you have to splice and then your back to stock with no alarm. It's not like someones going to jack your 6G cars, unless you have so much high tech junk in there. tongue.gif

CelicaZR: I didn't get a proper chance to start tearing my car apart last night but as far as I coul tell there was nothing located under the driver seat (unless it is tiny and under the carpet - which I doubt). Soulshadow may be right in suggesting it will be under the dash near the steering column. I will have a better look tonight.

I am considering buying a new alarm as it won't be much more expensive, and I want to get window lifters fitted aswell!

I noticed you are also in Sydney so I guess you could point me in the right direction for the best price. smile.gif

Soulshadow: I'll have a look where you suggested and see if I can find anything. I'll you know how it goes.

Btw, I wouldn't be able to survive without the alarm because I live in an area that is very prone to car theft!

My brain was under my dash - near the steering column as well. I'm trying to find out how to reprogram the remote, if you have any luck, let us know...

If anyone needs interior stuff, etc, I'm parting whats left of my celi out. Just ask.

My alarm has been playing up lately too, the alarm (and central locking) just won't respond to the remote. I've taken it to the garage twice now and they proposed replacing the ECU as they can't seem to find any other faults! I find it strange that something could just go so wrong with the ECU and cost so much to sort out!! From what I gather the alarm brain is tied into the ECU and this is located in different places from car to car to make it harder for thieves to disengage (at least thats what toyota are telling me).

I didnt think it would be under the driver's seat, I sorta felt the carpet but couldnt feel anything under it.
DVS, yea let me know I got a few places that will do you a good deal biggrin.gif
I reckon Soulshadow could be right, but I also heard that someone said it was on top of the ECU, which is located in front of the transmission behind the dash if you know what i mean.
