Ok first off I'm a friend of this guy's SN. I have done many swaps and also rebuilds of motors and it takes more then bolt ons to build a good motor. First off the power doesnt come just from pistons its also the head, You can mill the head to increase compression, Then you can port out the intake port (DO not polish! this decreases the chances that your fuel will atomise with your air to form a good mixture) Then lighten up the head, put ferrea valves and stiffer valve springs and lighter valve retainers, nowadays a good machine shop can make you a set. Polish your exhaust ports and port them too, to increase exhaust exit airflow. You also need to tune the camshafts to have a good duration so your valves are open enough to shoot enough air. Then balance your crank, the 5sfe crank is pretty weak because it wasn't balanced (it has a freaking harmonic balancer because of this) as good as it should have been, knife edge that crank too to help reduce drag in the oilpan. all you guys that have turbo and say that an NA 5sfe is worthless don't know crap! try rebuilding a motor and get into all the smaller engineering details that'll free HP up, just the head alone can be made to flow as good as a 3s head, also for the record a 3s head bolts onto the 5s and lowers the comrpession all you need is the head, 3s belt tensioner, 3s oilpump, and 3s headgasket but it needs to be modified for the 5s coolant ports using a drill and file. Watch for my company coming out with parts for the 94-99 celica soon and watch our progress on the 5sfe and 5sge and you'll be shutting your mouths. smile.gif

If you have a progect started, I'd like to know what it is currently. If you have more info on what to do, other than what have, please elaborate. Are there parts out there to do what your saying? What about ignition? I think a lot of us know what needs to be done, it's just a matter of what parts and were to get them. And for me, money. I still want to know, even if I don't currently have any money.

You can just wait till I show you my dyno sheets and all it takes is a little research to find out. But since most people don't respect the 5s, I rather not waste my breath.

Man, I'm seriously interested in building an allmotor 5s. Why are you talking about wasting your breath? You wrote that big post there, and then you reply with this. You've obviously got the time and energy. Why won't you share what you know? I want to know what you say you know. So please, inform us curious 5s owners.

I'd like to know also. Enlighten us lesser folk than you.

I have said before... and I do say again... the 5S bottom-end has inherent disadvantages as an n/a motor because of its poor rod/stroke ratio. Long stroke with short rods = poor piston dwell which equals poor n/a performance (inability to make torque in the higher revs). You can cry all you want about "the head makes power"... but hey... does your nose/mouth breathe without your lungs? Same concept... the head can "POTENTIALLY" breathe better... but if the bottom-end's geometry doesn't fully utilize the head... you're stuck.

I'd pick apart your post... but it would serve no purpose since you clearly have already made up your mind. Like I always say... build it and prove me wrong.

To close... it depends on what you folks want to do with your 5SFE. You can squeeze additional power with basic bolt-ons, cams, tuning, etc... but the 5SFE or 5SGE for that matter will never make n/a power without doing something about the rod/stroke ratio. Finally... Jim Snodgrass, a well known MR2 tuner and a tuner of the 5SFE (owns the highest known hp rating on an n/a 5SFE) has already tried unsuccessfully to build a good 5SGE. He ended up going 5SGTE instead if I remember correctly...

If you think otherwise... thrown down some technical infor and let's discuss...
