I have recently purchased a C1 body kit and am having it installed along with the installation I am repainting my car back to its origonal Factory Black color. A guy I met is charging me $800 for the 3 coats of Base and 4 coats of clear coat, it may be the other way around I am not informed when it comes to painting. He told me it will look like it did when it came from the Factory new. Is this a good deal for a paint job and will that be enough coats?

Thanks,
-Brandon

any more than 2 coats of clear coat will make your car more prone to stone chips because the paint will be softer. the best body shop in town told me that... so i wouldn't want that, but that's your choice i suppose.

The price is good assuming thats all the prep, masking, and painting jams and off car, etc...

However, if hes leaving prep up to you, you can get maaco or so forth for a little less..

If you don't know the guy, and he's offering to paint it for $800, I'd check his other work. That's cheap. Even my uncle, who's a good painter but does them really cheap does and all over of $1200.

That's rediculously cheap in my opinion. When I got my body kit installed, I payed $1400 to get it prepped, installed, and painted. I got my front and rear bumpers painted also. That was with 2 coats of clear. I would definately check his other work if you don't know him, as bulldog said. Good luck.

Hmm...

I hava question about paint cost wise... When my car's kit gets bolted on, I need to send it away and get it painted...

What does the typical run for a body kit to get painted cost? Its prolly like $1500 isnt it?

that is a good cost for a paint job but i would check and see some of his past work......normally for a paint fob it costs 500.00 in materials alone....not trying to scare ya away from him but that seems a little odd that he's only charging you 300.00 for labor to put the kit on, prep the car, and paint it......just seems odd to me, also i have noticed that most painters don't wet sand or buff after it's painted...you may want to ask him about that too.....but if he looks like he does good work and is only gonna charge you that for all the prep, installation, and paint....i say right on, but definatly check first wink.gif

I don't know about that. I think it depends on the painter and the type of paint used.
