I guess it's about time to switch out the old brakes and rotors. I'm not sure rotors need it, but I thought I might as well if I can get them for cheaper. What I'm wondering is what kind should I go with? Right now, all I need is the rears. Bremo has them, but they are solded insted of vented. Would it make that much difference in the back? I can get Bendix, and I think they are vented, but not sure. Just wondering what you guys thought. Oh yeah, I might be switching the fronts soon too, so if anyone knows were I can get a good deal on all 4, I'll just get that. Thanks everyone.

New EDIT: I've almost decided on Brembo's from Nopi, but they are solid. Is that bad? The factory ones have vents, we've all seem them. Is this going to effect performance?

Rear rotors are solid, fronts are vented.

I'd kind of like a good set. I know were I can get different kinds, well, pretty much. I'm just wondering what everyone has tried and what's good? Are those ebay drilled and slotted any acount? If I get all 4, it'd be cheaper to get those than any other stock replacement. At least that's how it looks now. I'm also kind of wanting to get brembo just so I can say, "I've got Brembo brakes." Everyone knows that old tune.

brembos are very cheap at nopi.com, look in the specials for the celica...each rotors is about $20.50, bout $15 for shipping.

Slotted/drilled will not improve performance -- in fact, they degrade performance by reducing surface area, heat-absorbing mass, and chewing up the pads. Remember, the point of the pad-rotor contact is not to stop the wheels turning, but to create heat (otherwise locking up your brakes would be a good thing). Slotting/cross-drilling used to be an improvement, but better pad design has made drilling and slotting obsolete.

Well I have slotted rottors and they are a great improvement over the non slotted rottors I used to have. They help clean crap off the pads, help disperse water in wet conditions and most of all look cool smile.gif If slotted and drilled discs are obsolete, why do rally teams use them, formula one teams use them, performance cars such as Porsche use them.....the list goes on. Celicatech may be a good site but it isnt the be all and end all of info.

I've heard this debate, and I know the agruments. I've made my mind up that slotted actually do something as far as shaving the layer of gas off between the pad and rotor. Drilled might do something for water disapations, I never thought of that, and it makes sence that sence there is more surface area to cool with drilled rotors that they could cool better, but I doubt you'd noticed it unless you really drove hard. I do plan on autocrossing the car some time, so I might actually be hard on my brakes. I've heated them up pretty good a cuple of times aready, acting like a stupid kid. If I can get them, and they aren't much more, I'll get them. It looks to me like the drilled/slotted for the rear are 150 + shipping. That's not real cool. They won't do to much in the rear, so I might just get the regulars which are $50 + shipping a piece for Brembo. I'm still trying to organize the best cost effect way of replacing/upgrading the brakes. Thanks for your help guys, please post more if you feel like it.

EDIT: Does anyone know anything about these Speedy Dynamic rotors?

A 20mm-thick solid rotor?

Sounds like you'd have the wrong ones. Vented allows more cooling, and weigh significantly less than a solid rotor of the same thickness -- which would degrade acceleration and handling..

The rears only come in solid. There's not enough caliper clearence for a vented rear rotor anyway... ;]

You'll be fine with the basic brembo blanks... stopping power all depends on contact surface area and quality of pads. Slots and holes are purely cosmetic.

Rear rotors should be 269mm in diameter (larger than ST fronts frown.gif ) and 9mm thick solid rotor... and be sure they're for the 94-95 models... I think the 96-99 are slightly different. Fronts are 275mm in diameter and 26mm thick...

honestly, i bought crossdrilled and chamfered brembo rotors, about a year ago, was around 300 shipped... i could tell a difference.... most likely it was the pads, but i autocross, and go out to Heartland park everynow and then and they make a huge difference... ya theres science to it blah blah blah, truth is they work if they are heated up and you are driving the **** out of your car. but if you dont track it, dont autocross.... it pretty much cosmetic.

another thing is if they get warped.... you cant turn them, you need to buy new ones.
