where is the power band for our cars? As you can tell by the title, i have a stock 5SFE with injen intake. i'm guessing around low to mid 5's? (or high 4's to mid 5's?) i know the injen gives you a little more top-end torque so i was just wondering where the power band will be. (what range will be the most torque)
thanks, just wanna add some more knowledge to my head and others who might not know either. -------------------- PROJECT 6TH GEN

I can't believe you have enough posts to have two bars and don 't know this. I guess you could mostly post in styling or electrical. If you look at presure2's dyno chart on his 5sfte, it shows were the power curve is. I think it starts about 3500rpm, and ends at 5500rpm. The car just doesn't pull to hard after that, especailly after about 5800rpm. You can feel were it's at. Don't buy the injen intake, if that's what you were talking about. That thing is just overpriced. Way overpriced. You can make a CAI for about a 10th of what it costs. And CAI is always better than ram air.
EDIT: It doesn't look like you have the injen intake from your profile. But what is the Ingen SI? And sorry for jumping to conclusions. This post has been edited by Bigmeanbulldog55: Oct 1, 2005 - 11:26 PM -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

your right, i usually look at suspensions and what not. But yes, i already have the injen on there since the one i made was getting old and loose. (it was custom made by myself) pressure2's dyno chart is for the turbo setup thou. i was asking for NA engines. i guess it could be around 35-55 but thats with the turbo. I'm guessing my engine won't really "kick in" until a little higher then 35? thats my guess. -------------------- PROJECT 6TH GEN

It's really about the same. When an engine is in it's powerband it produces the most boost, therefor power curves are generally similar with the same engine turbo or not. I thought you might have had some kind of injen engine management. The intake is going to just give you more hp through the intire curve, it isn't going to raise your the curve any. I'm looking for some type of engine management for the future, so I thought you might have been able to help me out there.

Your torque peak is at 4,400 rpm and hp peak is at 5,500. So your main powerband is going to be from 4-5.5, you'll feel a good pull. Make sure to shift after 5.5, you won't build any more power

Manual is good because it gives you better control and allows you to shift higher if that's what you need. I shift at 6200 in first, 6000 out of second, and 5900-6000 out of third. After you've raced for a while, you get the hang of were a car preforms best. And remember, it's not always best to peg the rev limiter before you shift. It's actually never a good idea to peg the rev limiter.

its never good to max out the RPMS. For shifting some cars generate more power closer to redline than ours, which puts them at an advantage to stay in gear longer. For our 5sfe, if you shift at about 5800-6000 RPMs then you will be keeping it right in the powerband for the next gear. If you were to shift at say 6500, not only would you be in redline and wasted time getting there out of the power curve, you would start in the next gear in the middle of the powerband and have less time with the engine generating the most power. Make sense? *EDIT* just because a car CAN rev high doesnt mean it NEEDS or SHOULD rev high. We're not drivin S2000's here, we don't need the RPMs way up to make power lol This post has been edited by blu94gt: Oct 3, 2005 - 7:19 PM -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
