Hi, I'm considering getting a Momo Top Power steering wheel for my car, and if I did that, I'd get the Momo hub(#7730) so that I could mount it. My question to anyone with an aftermarket steering wheel is what to do with the cruise control? From the couple of photos that I've seen of sixth gens with aftermarket steering wheels, it didn't look like there was still the factory cruise control, and so I was just wondering what people do with their cruise control when they get aftermarket steering wheels.

You know that removing the airbag is illegal right? My friend had removed his and got like a ticket and had to pay a few hundred to get it replaced because he pawned it off on ebay.

As far as cruise goes id guess ditch it or move it down the column

If I get pulled over, I'll just say that when I bought the car, the owner told me that the airbag had deployed already. tongue.gif

I've thought about moving the cruise control lever, but I was curious as to if it had to be re-located or not with a Momo hub.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to drive with a deployed airbag too. I don't know if it's illegal to replace it with a aftermarket steering wheel. I bet it is. I'd guess only cops having a bad day will talk to you about this.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check local laws before I do anything. smile.gif

Yeah, I'd do that, I dont know if your laws vary from ours but I know Wisconsin has some tough laws to beat. (But no emissions) Sorry Californians tongue.gif

J/j man

sorry coomer, it was irresistable and a useless posts so I will add some info

my friend and I got pulled a few nights ago because his mustang GT has been backfiring in 2nd and it attracted some cops attention, and there are 2 huge slits in the steering wheel, and a whole in the dash where the airbags deployed and the cop only questioned why they were like that... he said nothing about fixing them or anything. btw: i live in FL

My question is how do the pigs know that your car came stock with an airbag? I've only got a drivers side airbag, so I can't see how they'd be onto it.

Only thing is, I like being alive and I drive fast sometimes so I don't think its worth taking it off. Sure there are really nice wheels around, but the stock leather one is staying.

I am not sure about the rules for airbags outside of the us and canada. My car came from the factory with no airbag biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

In the US, I believe 92 was the first year a driver's airbag was manditory, it was not until 96 (I think) that canada made it law.

I had deployed air bags in my old SS I had and have never had any problems with the law here and have been pulled over ALOT twhen I had the car-TEXAS

I also want to add a steering wheel I have a TRD one,but i don't want to lose my cruise control either-
I don't thimnk that you can just put it on the hub because it is on the steering wheel itself(on my 94 ST)...
I think that maybe if you take off the control itself (joystick thing) and make a similar mount for it on the sterring column like the on that is on the steering wheel, you can mount it there, you may have some slack in the cable but you can probably pull it ou t the bottom of the column.
I am probably going to try and see what I can do with my car tomorrow if I get a chance......

Here is the answer your looking for on the cruise. The cruise lever will not mount on a momo steering wheel or adpter. There is space inside the right side of the column to mount the old lever. The cover will have tobe cut for the lever to come out and a small
mount plate made to mount the switch. Not to hard of a job and could look factory when finished. Next problem the cruise and horn wiring goes through the airbag clockspring and the clockspring has to be removed to install a momo steering hub. so you will have to splice the cruise wiring together. For the horn your going to have to figure that one for your self. With more time I could get that working. For right now I'm changing back to airbags for an inspection.

yeah, I've never heard about illegal to drive without airbags. there's a dealership in town that does nothing but fix wrecked cars to sell and they just put covers on the airbag mounts instead of paying to have new bags installed, all legal. I would think that the aftermarket steering wheel market wouldn't exist if it were illegal to uninstall airbags. Plus how is a cop going to know whether or not the bag has blown before or if the car had them to start with, etc

airbag laws are different every where. In Ontario, its not illegal to remove them for drivers side, but passanger side it is. rolleyes.gif Dont ask why. But yea it all depends on where u live. My friend replaced his steering wheel on his GLI Jetta, cop pulled him over n started to write a ticket, but in Ontario we have a book u can buy for $20 like any where that has all the laws about cars(what you can and cant do). Its just like in Ontario you are allowed to have nitrous, but cops will give u a ticket for it if u have it. Its unjust. But yea, coom, if you ever figure out how 2 re-wire it/make it workable not on the colum, write a how 2.

Wha u dont like airbag saving ur life??? I understand doing this swap if your car didnt come with airbags or you are using the car for racing. But if its your daily driver why would u take out a safety feature?
