Ok, im an asian guy 180 lbs (yes Im kinda fat in a sense) and 5'4". Every day when I skip out on breakfast and head out to school. I would feel kinda fine and not too hungry, but after a while lets say at 10 AM. My stomache starts to grumble and it grumbles very loudly. Lets just say that the person sitting next to me and the person 3 desk away can hear it. This is the tell tale sign that its hungry even tho I still feel kinda not so hungry in a sense.
Do any of you guys / gals have this weird symptom where your feeling alright, but the stomache disagrees, grumbles like crazy and says it wants some food? I always thought that only cartoons and animated characters face this problem, but It turns out I'm facing it too! ANY COMMENTS? |

Yes. My stomach grumbles all of the time, and usually it is for no reason at all. And it's loud.
Eat something in the morning, like a piece of fruit or a pack of crackers. I'm sure that will help a little bit. -------------------- |

The "growling" is actually not your stomach but gas movement through your small intestines with peristalsis and as the muscular tube expands and then contracts, the sound of the gas rushing through the narrow tube makes noise.
The question you are asking is why you have a noisier gut at some times and how to prevent that. It is often related to what you have eaten, and one of the most common causes of "noisy" bellies is lactose intolerance caused by increased gas from bacteria that are happily feeding on lactose sugar from dairy products that your gut does not have adequate lactase enzyme to break down. You might want to eliminate dairy products for a few days, or take a lactase supplement like "Lactaid" to see if it changes the noisiness. Other potential causes are gas producing foods like onions, broccoli, cabbage, legumes, brussel sprouts and other brassicas. These are healthy foods, but can aggravate gas in some individuals. Also consider whether you are "air swallowing" from gum chewing or smoking which can increase this problem. If none of these seem to be the case, you can consult with our nutritionist in the Health Center after an evaluation with a provider to make sure there is no other gastrointestinal problem going on.
