My rear mounting bolt has gone bad and I need to replace it. Is there any way to do it other than removing the whole engine out of the car and then replacing it?
Any suggestions would be great. |

LOL silly me I meant the rear motor mount, the one that sits on the car itself and has the tranny engine mount hook up to it. My Car is an ST hatchback |

take the bolt out of the middle front mount.
take the bolt out of the middle of the rear. no you can rock the engine back and forth. unbolt the rear mount . push the engine forward. take the mount out. reverse the steps to put it back in. DEF -------------------- I will return one day. |

What about just jacking the car up to take it out? That's how it did it. And if you go to autozone or something to get a new mount, they'll call it the right one. It's about the angle of the engine not the direction in the car. I have no clue why they do that.

I was thinking that I should just jack up the tranny, get the mount out and then swap in a new one. IF this doesn't work, then I'll try rocking the thing back and forth, but I don't see how that will work either. |

Yeah, I was talking about just putting a jack there under the tranny and lifting it up and taking it out. I put my car up on ramps first though. I can't fit under it without that. I don't think that's too bad. The hardest part for me was the actual removal of the mount after I unbolted it. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

Yeah..... ummm I noticed that too! The mount didn't want to come out no matter what I did. Therefore, I figured THE GOD DAM MOUNT WON'T COME OUT!!! Unless you take out the engine, tranny, and everything then have a go at it. SHEESH! The mount on the tranny that sits on top of that makes it so, that its impossible to take out the rear tranny mount. I got tired, so I just bolted everything back on and left the engine as it is with a broken / torn rear motor mount. At least it's still in place and kinda holding. Looks like it won't go for a while.

One, is to take off the tranny mount under the air intake so the engine can move more and you can maybe get it out. The second, is to grind off one of the bolts on the mount. This isn't favorable, but if you haff to get it out, it's must be done. It's better to have a mount that works with one less bolt than a mount that doesn't work. I suggest grinding the one that's under the circular part of the mount. The other two can be removed. The one under the circle is the only one you can't take out. Get it off there and fill it with urithane, put it back in, and you'll be set. Good luck, and don't give up. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

I pretty much had it with my celica! Im tired, sick, dirty, sweaty, headached, and hopeless. At least its running and pulling strong. I just gave up on all the weird noises that the car makes when driving around. The only thing I know, is that it doesn't go off track, break down, and explode

You've just got to get in there and look for yourself. Anywere the motor or trans is connected to the car, there's a mount there. If you let it go, things will pile up pretty fast, and soon your car will be worth nothing and you'll half to get something else. If this is what you want, stay the course. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

I did this 2 weeks ago. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

Guys I have just removed mine last week so I am pretty updated on this. I found the same problem to remove the rear motor mount. (3s-ge engine)
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...l=hopping&st=20 After a lot of pain and sweat I decided to remove the front mount and dimantle the crossmember. The car is till jaked up waiting for the part from Toyota so I cannot comment on the re-assambling. |

You just have to play with twisting it around and lifting and lowering the engine with a jack on the transmition. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy
