for those of you that have bought a car when shipping was involved, what method of payment did you use? cheque? bank draft? credit card?
i already got the bank draft (frickin cost me $5) but i just found out i could credit my own credit card with enough money to make the purchase... and credit cards have fraud protection while brank drafts don't... a credit card payment will need to be made via paypal. however... paypal's rate is higher than my bank's rate... AND they have a service charge... so i end up paying several hundred over... the seller does have 42-43 positive feedbacks on ebay all from selling cars. (100% of the people have recieved the car). however, i am buying the car off of ebay. she seems legit... but i still wanna be careful... as this is the largest purchase i've ever made in my life i'm not too sure if i can use my bank draft with escrow.. someone had suggested it to me.. but they only accept cheques... and i can't get a cheque in US currency because i have an account with canadian currency... they only accept CC payments via paypal. but the limit for that is $5000... and um. doing it this way i will get hit 2x the service charge so i'd just like to here what you all would recommend considering my situation and also for those of you who have paid for a car that required shipping, what method did you use to pay. thanks! o. and flying down + driving it back up is out of the question since i can't afford to take a few days off... pay cash through an escrow service. Its the safest and both you and the seller can have peace of mind. Have you seen the car? If not, the seller may be unwilling to use an escrow service. Have you negotiated whose car it is when it is on the truck? What if something happens in transit? If its yours, have you arranged insurance from the time that it leaves the seller? Just some things to think about...

Make sure you have some type of buyers protection. All those car sellers on E-bay will try to hide as many things as you can't see with the eye! This includes leaking transmission, poor startup on cold weathers, weird noises from the car when driven. You have no way of test driving the car first so you don't know anything and the looks of the car should never be considered.

i had the car taken into toyota of orlando for an inspection.. i talked to the advisor taking care of the inspection and he said the car was in really good shape... so i hope that is the case when it arrives...
just talked with dealer.. she is not willing to do escrow as she's gotten burned with fake escrow sites so she doesnt wanna try it.. she says she has dealer licenses and stuff and that i can even check up the company history... etc and that if anything happens i can take action and get her license revoked/suspended etc.. and she was also saying from her ebay account i can check she's shipped to other countries before and that i have more ways of getting action taken if something happens since she is a dealer while i'm a private buyer.. what do you all think? as for insurance while on the truck...um.. i have to talk to the shipping company about that... although i assume since i've already paid that it is considered mine... the shipping company is searail.ca they seem pretty big so i think they would have some type of quality assurance thing This post has been edited by elvasoshexai: Oct 12, 2005 - 9:54 PM -------------------- |

I assumed you were buying it from a private individual. P.S. her objections to the escrow service are BS. You could pick something like escrow.com or any other reputable service that SHE PICKS. That said, I would just have her ship it as long as you have the insurance thing covered. I shipped my car from IL to FL for the swap and had no problems at all. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

How is her ebay seller's rating? If its good, I wouldn't worry about it. However, I understand your concern and you are the one that needs to be comfortable. Are you arranging the shipping? Did you pick the shipper? If so, they go the dealership and pick up the car at your request. One option would be to send your paypal payment when the shipper gets there. You could just have him call you when he is there and the car is ready to be loaded. But seriously, if these things don't work out, if it were me, I would take the leap of faith (assuming she has a good seller's rating on ebay). it is an older car. so i'm not making payments/installments on it. it's just like.. a full payment for buying it...
i wish my parents would buy me a car for an early graduation gift... i still have 3 years before graduation tho... hah altho u kno what... they said if i bought a car newer than 2000 that was < 15k.. they would help pay the extra amount over what i was going to spend on a car anyway... i could get a 7th gen gt.. or corolla type-s or a rsx... or an older imprezza... or a lancer es or possibly even a mazda3... but...
