i think you could do a basic turbo project for about 1k. there is a guy on ebay that sell a manifold and a turbo only for 500ish. then you'd need an fmu ($80) and an IC+piping(300ish)... bov (70) and boost guage (40).... plus odds and ends, welding and tuning...

you can save more money if you go for used stuff. this is of course assuming that you do all the work yourself.

...that's the problem...i would have to have someone else do it...so the install itself would be almost 1k...

...cries is getting one of those electric turbos...and he'll tell me whether it is worth it or not...and if it does anything...so we'll see what the dellio is in a week or so...

- - - i know a lot of people on this site hates electric turbos...and has a right too...but has anyone tried them?- - - as far as a really cheap solution that will give you a little boost (2-3 psi.) it does not sound bad! (i'd like if someone who has tried these things to come up and tell me what they think...if it works, don't be afraid to say so!)

here is a quick list of just some of the basics for the 5sfte turbo project.. there is ALOT I left out but this would pretty much get you a running setup, the 1st $ is the "I got the super hook up on everything but its lowend stuff" price and the second is an approx of what to expect for decent stuff, neither shows actual prices.. just approx of what you could expect to pay. niether shows install price or all the other little extras that go into it or repairs, rebuilds, etc nor does it even list some of the stuff that are pretty much a MUST have, but just for a approx price I compiled this list:

exhaust manifold $30 (cheap stock) - $250 (ave aftermarket)
ct26 $75 (junk yard) - $300-$500 (great condition low miles)
downpipe $40 (cheap stock) - $250 (ave aftermarket)
oil pan $5-10 (tap into) - $60-80 (3sgte one not counting hoses)
IC $50-75 (junk yard) - $250 + (new intercooler)
Piping $100+ (cheap crush bent) - $300 + (Crispy mandrel bent)
Intake $15 (autozone filter) - $150 + (nice custom piping/filter)
FMU $0 (no fmu) - $80ish
BTM6a $0 (no btm) - $300ish
Injectors $40(if your damn lucky) - $100ish (not counting cleaning)
2bar map $30(junk yard) - $60 (great condition/new)
Misc $40 - $400+ (other extras.. will prolly be alot higher)

*stock downpipe and manifold would lower second price aot*

This leaves a total between $425 to $455 (cheap) - $2500 and up (decent).. even though after the 3.5k mark it just becomes a "my cock is bigger than yours" show off because it no longer is cost effective for the 5sfte.... even though im sure there are people on this board (myself included) that are getting close to that $ amount with there projects biggrin.gif but these people are "pushing the envolope" and making VERY useful contributions to the 5sfte setup

Granted even if you could get all those parts for that cheap and even if they where all in great working condition your still more than likely looking at an unstable set up and prolly gonna have MAJOR probs, and repairs can add up alot quicker than performance parts can.

Not that you can't have probs with even the nicest of setups, prior motor condition, installation, driving habits etc can all factor into how your mods affect your car... I cant count the number of times I have watched someone put intake/exhaust on there civics, cavilars, etc and then gone out and driven like there indy cars and a week or two later they've blown there motor.

I guess what Im trying to say is to do your research on mods long before you install them... what looks like a quick and easy fix to the speed addiction can quickly turn into a major problem requiring alot of help.. kinda like crack wink.gif A little more spent ahead of time is usally cheaper in the long term. Regardless your gonna do what you want to, and you should cuz its your car, but please take the time to weight your options... there is no holy grail of performance mods... but there are some really nice sippy cups tongue.gif

i'm guessing from the price its crush bent not mandrel also is that with flanges or did you buy those extra and o2 bun did you get one welded on? maybe a egt bun then wraped or coated and size of pipe makes a diffence also

so yes you can have a crush bent down pipe for cheap or you can get a nice mandrel bent one with o2 and egt buns welded on maybe take another step and get it coated or wraped i take extra steps because i plan for down the road or the big picture but thats me

yeah its crush bent but still, thats not much of a difference for my application. o2 sensor bung was welded in for free, and i have egt on my manifold.
