Here's the situation: 67MPH on a 40MPH 2-lane one-way street. The cop was pointing a radar gun straight at me. He was real cool. He told me he'll give me a break. He didn't give me a ticket for wreckless driving, not having a seatbelt, illegal tints. redface.gif Thank God. But I have an unlawful speed ticket to worry about. I just got a ticket about 2 months ago for the same thing. 60MPH on a 35MPH. Except this time, the cop WILL be in court and he said he has all his certs and everything for the radar gun. I told him I didn't realize how fast I was going because my cluster right now only reads in km/h since my original one was messed up and i'm fixing it. i don't know if that'll help me. He said he usually always wins the case and that he will again this time. So I'm saying I plead no contest and say I didn't know how fast I was going but it didn't feel like I was doing 67. My cluster only reads in km/h so I think that should help me out a bit. What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If anything, you'd probably get in more trouble for telling them your speedometer only reads in km/h. I don't think it's legal to swap gauge clusters.

how about you use the above advice in the future. i dont know how old you are, but sooner or later youll realize its stupid to speed on public roads. 67 in 40 is pretty dangerous man. just pay it and accept the consequences like an adult.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

You should just fess up and pay for what you've done. I speed, but I'm prepared to pay a ticket if I get one, I don't try to find a way to weasel out of it. I'm sorry, but if you can't pay, then don't speed, man.

no offense to the above 2 posts but i'm not about to pay $225 twice... yeah, i was guilty but hey, if you can get out of it, then why pay the whole thing? im 18. yeah, im sure u think im stupid but i've been driving for a good 4 years now every day and i know what i do. i dont know how old you are but im guessing older than me and you think what im saying is crap. trust me, i know how to drive very very well. no accidents here. not that that means much because most of the time it's luck.not only that but i worry about points on my license. and im sorry, but everyone speeds. everyone. if you always go at the exact limit or less, you're a loser and you'll never get anywhere. im working 2 jobs and going to school full-time. i was on my way to the second job. i have reason to speed. but if i ever feel the need for speed again, i'll just play underground. lol. i dunno, i needed a good way to end that...

argh, how can you guys get so many speeding tickets?
I can't figure out why people would do 60 in a 30 mph zone.
Get it straight, your not gonna get away everytime.
Perhaps its time you guys switched over to a radar dectetor.

Joker, I didn't mean to call you stupid. I'm sorry you felt I did. $225 is a lot for a ticket. None of mine were over $150. I've had 3 now. One for 80 in a 50 and "speed competition," one for 50 in a 35, and one for 85 in a 70. I know what it's like to get them, I'm just saying you should take responsibility for them. Be a responsible person. I had no idea you were so young, but that gives you even more of a responsibility to act right here. You need to be a good ambassador for your age so maybe cops will stop hassling young guys so much. I'm only 20, so I'm in the same boat as you with getting hassled.

EDIT: After I got my radar detector, I haven't gotten a signal ticket. Then again, I've been a lot better at picking and choosing my "speeding" spots too.

^it's very simple. you do something illegal and bam. you see the sirens, they ask for your license, registration, insurance and next thing you know, you're signing some white paper, they give you the yellow carbon copy and you're in court within the next few weeks. j/k. im trying to lighten the mood a bit. i dunno man, i just love to hear the little 7a give it all it's got at high rpms. next thing you know, you're over 60. actually, this second ticket, i really had no idea how fast i was going till he told me cuz im using the st205 cluster now and it reads in km/h. and hopefully i'll be getting a radar soon. they sound cool when you start up the car.

What the HELL are you doing going 70 in a 40 with no seat belt on?

Just pay the ticket. 225 isn't a lot, my tickets have all been over 300. When you show up on court on the 26th you will be in a long line of people. When you say: "not guilty" he will go: ok, then I'll see you on court on.. etc. and set a trial date. Or he'll listen to you, and probably tell you to F off and pay the fine and not even offer traffic school.

"No accidents here" doesn't mean squat. You'll get in one if you continue driving this irresponsibly, and when you do, you'll fly straight through the windshield, your head will break open on the concrete and you'll never post here again.

Also, unless you're either lying about driving for four years, or lying about your age. Or, even better, you were driving illegally when you were 14! How fun, what a history of irresponsibility.

Why didn't you stop speeding like an idiot after the first ticket? Or for christs sake, at least use your seatbelt for the next time you get pulled over? Pay both of them, and cry about it.

Finally, if he gave you the whole "I win all my cases ****" it means you probably gave him the idea that you were going to take him to court by

A) Being rude
B) Trying to weasel your way out of it 100x times
C) Being arrogant

If these took place in the same city, expect to lose the first case as well. It's not like these people don't talk to each other.

The km/h excuse won't wash. While it's questionable, you have a working speedometre. Canadians drive their cars in the states all the time and we can figure out how fast to go.

Besides which, with all the other stuff you didn't get nailed with -- and the seatbelt's a big one to avoid -- you're already in the lucky zone. When this officer shows up and says the driver he pulled over has a history of speeding -- guaranteed he'll look it up beforehand -- and this driver was already given multiple breaks, you'll be lucky if the judge doesn't add to your penalty.

You're lucky you weren't driving in my province. Every 20 km/h over the limit is a higher fine, and more than 40 km/h becomes excessive speed, which increase the points on your licence. You'd be looking at close to $1000 in fines here on what you've described (seatbelt, tint, 43 km/h over the limit, etc).

Just be an adult. You chose to break the law, knowing it could cost you both your life and your wallet. Take responsibility for your actions already.

Man thats some good stuff^ You could learn a thing or 2 from this guy.

Yeah..you will be suprised the first time you go to court. It isnt like Judge Judy, its not Law and Order. In the pretrial apperance you come in, take a number (hand in your citation), and you say one of 3 things when you step in front.

No Contest - most common option. Fine will most likely stay the same and points will most likely be reduced/dropped.

Guilty - Same as not showing up for the trial and just sending in your money to the proper address

Not Guilty - They schedule you a court date.

^Nowhere up there is there anything about telling them your story. Unless they have a city/county attorney who is taking care of things. Then you can tell your story, but most likely they will not be interested. They will offer you a plea bargain, much like No Contest above.

You can ask jgreening for more details. Hes a lawyer smile.gif Trust me, its nothing to get nervous about.

Besides the first hearing is always just to plead innocence or guilt. You plead inncoent then they schedule another court day where you plead your case and the cop shows up. Cop doesn't have to show for the first one.

BTW, don't speed. What if some kid runs into the street? At 35mph you could have stopped...at 60 you can't...then you just smacked some kid with your Celica. I wouldn't want to go to jail at 18 for vehicular manslaughter.

I'm guessing you're a mom by the way you're talking. I also wish I had your job because $225 is a lot to me. I got the tickets in different cities, by the way. And yeah, I've been driving since I was 14. I started driving legally when I turned 15. Why? You're going to tell my mom or something? Why didn't I stop speeding like an idiot after the first ticket? The same reason you didn't, according to your profile: "Speeding Ticket Red (2 recieved frown.gif". And no, I wasn't doing any of your little multiple choice response things. So next time you feel like being a smart ass or just treat another member like they're some kind of idiot or something, check yourself first or just comment on somebody else. I just didn't like how you were treating me like an idiot when you(at the time) had the same number of speeding tickets as me. I was expecting advice from others that have been to court, not for you to treat me like a 15 year old trying to be the fast and the furious. I was trying to get to my other job on time. So unless you drive the exact speed limit at all times or less, it's considered speeding. I don't know about where you're at but 5mph over the limit here is an "unlawful speed" ticket. I think it's only a warning but it's still considered speeding. You can post back if you want but I won't really care to post back because I said what I had to say.

lol...I think shid is a dude too. Just chill man. If 200 bucks or w/e is too much then make your defiiniton of speeding the 5 to 10 over standard that is usually acceptable.
