I'm going to court on Friday for a speeding ticket. Truthfully, I'm pretty nervous. I'm hoping that the cop simply doesn't show up. I'm not going to deny that I was speeding. I was merely hoping to go to court and apologize and what not and hope for a reduced sentence. Even so, I'm not sure exactly what to say. Can anyone help me? TY

It wont be susepended, but you will eb stuck on your provisionals for another year, which kinda sucks. I had the same. I told them my speedo didnt work and i got ride of the car, which was the truth. I got pulled for 85 in 55.. Got one point an extended year on provisionals(which you get with any points) and a $300 fine. Your should be fine, just let them know you learned your lesson, and will be carful. |

Just say not guilty. Ask the cop to prove he knows how to work that thing properly. Ask him to prove that thing actually works properly in the first place. He needs to have all that documentation there or you go free. Go to the library and get some books on beating speeding tickets. I beat several in MD. Lots of ways around it, but pray he doesnt show up.

some advice. Judges take the law very technically, whats written is the law. If it says you were "exceeding the posted speed", go find the definition of "exceeding the posted speed" in the civic library and copy it. If you did not commit even a single part of that definition, you should get off scott free because technically you did not commit the crime. There is no committing part of a crime, you either did or didnt. Do you see what I am saying

QUOTE(forkee @ Oct 12, 2005 - 12:17 AM) good luck Thanks, but does anyone have any advice rather than to deny that I was speeding. Is there no way to get a reduced punishment by telling the truth? All I'm thinking that I can say is that "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was speeding. I know that I shouldn't be speeding, but I just wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going at the time." I know this isn't exactly a good reason but don't you guys think it would at least lessen the amount of days I'm suspended? |

Going to court is more of a pain in da as. You just waist your time and they will reduce your fine by a little, but than they charges you the court fee and you end up with the same amount of fine. DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME ROTTING ON THE BENCH! |

so your going to say you were speeding, and add to that you were not paying attention? That should go over well.
You do not have to lie. You should not lie. All you are doing is laying the burden of proof on the witness. Thats why you get off when the cop does not show up. He is the witness. Maybe you were not speeding at all, but he does not know how to operate the machinery correctly or the equipment is not working correctly. Maybe he held it upside down. Maybe the equipment was effected by near by power lines, other cars, or the cell phone from the dead hooker in his trunk. There are several reasons why those things do not work properly. Larger objects get stronger readings than smaller ones, and the range of the guns is ridiculously wide. Are'nt you sick of being harrased by police for driving a little fast. Those speed limits are insanely slow anyway. They just want your money, don't give up without a fight. At least make em earn it. -------------------- |

You have posted some halarious crap in the past, but this is one of the best. Let's do math for marines.... if the speed limit is 35 mph, and my speedometer is displaying 40 mph... that means.... hold on, let me think... I got it... I was "exceeding the posted speed." Why do scrots like you always have to try and find a loop hole? Is taking responsibility for your actions against your ethics or something? Celicaca....more power to you. You know what you did wrong, and you're not trying to place blame on someone else or find a loop hole. There's nothing wrong with asking for advice on how to come out as best you can, even if you did do something wrong. Life is about making mistakes. It takes a real man to own up to them and accept the results. I'm a little late to offer helpful advice, but I do hope everything came out at least satisfactory for you. Good luck and be safe! |

relax, this is just what lawyers do, find ways to interpret the law differently. otherwise everyone would be going to jail for ****. Besides, paying 150 bones is no fun.

Congrats! And that is exactly why you should go to court every time. Sometimes you get lucky. I bet it was funny to hear them read the names of the people who did not show up and get bench warrants when all they had to do is show up to go free.
